Red Lanterns is almost comically violent, and that’s probably where it works. What could easily be a sort of one-note premise could operate well in an intentionally over-the-top style.

That said, Atrocitus’s soul searching is, well, not that interesting. And the rest of the Red Lanterns aren’t exactly conversationalists. A side story on Earth sets up a secondary plot, which I can only assume will result in the rise of a human Red Lantern, but he’ll have to be a bit more verbal if his addition to the cast will mean anything.

Not the strongest start but, hey, maybe it’s going somewhere.
