There's something about this book that appeals to me. Maybe it's the boobs; maybe it's the Amanda Conner art; maybe it's the fact it's just so awesome from start to finish.
This issue felt a lot like a series finale; all of the plot points that have taken hold of previous issues came back for a moment to shine. None of them last more than a few pages, but all feel natural and deserving of our attention. As the title of the issue suggests, it is indeed "The Little Things!" that tend to strike a chord.
The brief sequence involving the series' two primary villains was great, potentially setting up a conflict between Sivana and Satanna that could run through Judd Winick's upcoming run on the book (if he plans to continue using these characters, that is).
The sequence where Power Girl tries to name her cat was wonderfully done, and made me smile throughout. It's only a page-long sequence, but it was absolutely, perfectly rendered by Amanda Conner, whose art is probably my favourite of the current generation of artists.
The biggest chunk of the book was dedicated to the storyline that got me properly reading the book; Vartox, the sexed-up 1970s-porn-star-esque alien once more returns, bringing with him his own brand of trouble for Power Girl to sort out. It was a wonderful call-back to that story, and made me smile throughout the entire section.
I'm going to miss Power Girl. As much as I love Judd Winick, something tells me I probably won't be sticking with the book; not because I don't think his run will be good, but because reading Power Girl, now, I instantly associate the book with Amanda Conner and if she's gone (along with Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray on writing chores) I just don't think I can carry on reading it.
So long, Power Girl. You've been one hell of an awesome book!
