This series deserved a better ending.

The main problem, for me, was the art.  I’ve never seen people with heads shaped the way they are in this comic.  Alfred looks absolutely heinous in every panel.  When did they reveal he was part Klingon?  Was that a part of RIP that I missed?

The story is pedestrian.  Dick continues to deal with the death of Bruce.  He moves back to Gotham, he cleans up the Batcave, and…well, there’s nothing to spoil in this issue.  It’s an epilogue to a story that isn’t really over, and doesn’t really require this reverence.  Sure, Nightwing, the series if over, but the story being told in Nightwing is continuing in Batman, Detective, Battle For The Cowl, Robin, Oracle, and who knows how many other titles.  I would have liked, if not action, some sort of insight to Dick Grayson that we didn’t already have.  We certainly didn’t need three pages devoted to the death of The Waynes, and how that ties in to the death of The Graysons.  We know.

The Origins & Omens story in the back, about Oracle’s birthday surprise is a much more interesting look into who Dick Grayson is, and it only takes five pages.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 1 - Poor

  2. Right.  A Skrull.  Or I work for comic book stores.

    Actually, I’m a Cylon.

  3. Wow, it must be so kool to get your comics a day early!  I need to get myself a job at a comic book shop!!

  4. You’re right, many of the faces/heads looked very weird in this issue. For some reason the characters are all smiling toothy smiles most of the time. It’s peculiar, since I think Kramer has gotten increasingly better over the last 2-3 years.
