I really liked this issue. I’ve liked every issue of this series so far but have struggled to discover exactly why. But as I read this issue for the third time, it finally hit me:
This is Giant Size X-Men #1 in the New 52.
It’s a newly formed team dealing with early failures and pressure to succeed in the shadow of the previous group. As a new threat emerges the team breaks into groups of two, providing plenty of banter and character exposition, only to all become seemingly defeated by a powerful new enemy!
Like I said, Giant Size X-Men. No wonder I like it so much.
