amongst the iFanbase, having darwyn cooke draw your book doubles the pulls!

and it’s a well-deserved doubling. i’m part of the half that isn’t a regular hex reader, but i flipped through the book in the store and realized that there was no way i could leave it on the shelf. and it was a very enjoyable one-shot story.

there story is narrated by the memory of a mute man who, as a child, had a run-in with jonah hex in the canadian wilderness. it was a nice touch – i’m not really familiar with hex, and neither is the narrator, and so we’re all introduced together. beyond this narration, there is very little dialogue, which is perfect. it lets darwyn cooke’s fantastic art tell the story.

if you know cooke (and if you read iFanboy, you probably do), you know what you’re getting. he doesn’t disappoint – the art is clean and beautiful, the action scenes dynamic, and hex stands out in the white snow with his brilliant orange scarf.

this was a wonderful single issue to read – the story was well-paced and had a very satisfying arc (with a great last page).

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
