Balls. Kirkman’s got a pair of brass ones.

Ignore those who say this story would’ve been better served over more than one issue. Of course it would’ve, but then it would have also destroyed what Kirkman was attempting to do. A mega event encompassing practically every Image property, a whole bunch of interdimensional Invincibles, and MEANINGFUL sacrifices – all in ONE issue. This was more epically brutal than Bendis’ could ever dream of making Secret Wares, and light years more intelligible than Final Crisis on the first read through.

Not only was the issue exciting and entertaining, it also effectively set a more convincing status quo for the Invincible universe than Bendis’ Dark Reign and Morrison’s um, whatever it was he set up.

The art was amazing as usual, the writing’s sharp, and damnit, read this book. I’m eagerly looking forward to the next Image mega event, and I love knowing it won’t cost me more than four bucks.

Story: 5 - Excellent
