i wasn't too thrilled about the idea of this issue going in - i don't really have a lot of love for the greater image-verse - but doing it all in one issue was an intriguing idea. as it turned out, this wasn't a big deal; it was definitely an invicible issue, continuing one of the big storylines that's been building up.
a couple thoughts:
- there was just a little too much going on in this issue, to the point that it got quite messy in the middle portion. lots of invincibles, lots of cameos, lots of blood on people's mouths/noses. the storytelling is a bit muddled.
- for the life of me, i have no clue how atom eve got hurt. i looked twice, but never actually saw her injury.
- interesting that only ten issues after the big brawl, status quo-changing 50th issue that we get this, which seems a little bit too close. the large-scale pacing didn't really seem to work out for me - i didn't feel like kirkman earned my being interested and invested in what went on here. the guardians get trashed, the world gets trashed, rex splode dies (!)...i mean, this should feel like the culmination of something big. instead, it felt quite jarring.
that said, not a bad issue, just not a great one either.

I agree–it was an interesting challenge, but I don’t think he pulled it off. Honestly, I felt like I would have to have already been a reader of every Image book in history in order to feel much of a connection to the guest stars…or in fact, even to recognize most of them. If this book was intended in some way to encourage me to read other books in the line, it failed. I wasn’t intrigued by the panel or two I saw of any given character in this, and since I didn’t already know who they were, other than Brit, The Astounding Wolf-Man, and Savage Dragon, I wouldn’t know which ones had books of their own and what those books were called if I wanted to follow up on them. The Proof/Savage Dragon crossover and the prior Brit & AWM crossovers with Invincible have been much more effective.
