I’ll confess I’m not deeply versed in Cosmic Marvel as I probably should be, but I’ve read at least some of DnA’s run and really enjoyed it and was curious about this version. And I will admit it was completely adequate. There’s nothing here that offended, but nothing really hooked me either. The story has a kind of intreresting political intrigue aspect to it, but the pacing is a bit off with a large amount of talking and then sudden action. And I agree with others that Iron Man seems kind of wasted here, likely added just to bring in a wider audience. The biggest fault I find is that while McNiven’s art is very pretty to look at, his storytelling is lacking here. We see Drax going after Gamora after being told to retreat and then suddenly they’re both back on the ship. Soemthing happens to Groot but if it happened on panel I missed it. Etc. Etc. It’s ultimately serviceable but while it has the high stakes action that DnA would utilize, it lacks the heart or humor.
