I admit I haven’t followed Guardians of the Galaxy since the original team that was drawn by Gene Colan (I LOVED that team!). However, I was intrigued that Marvel was willing to risk one of their big budget movies on these “new” characters and so decided to check out this relaunch. Mr. Bendis did a great job in the .1 issue of getting me interested in the story of Peter Quill and wanting me to invest in this team. However, I felt like #1 was a disappointment in one major way. The inclusion of Iron Man seems forced and the dialogue that Tony has does not make logical sense to me given the things he’s said in Avengers that is driving that series. I agree with the advance review that said Iron Man could be lifted out of the story and it would read just as well. I thought the setup of the tensions between Peter and his father were well done and the build to this first arc was great. The art of this issue and establishes a great style for the book. I will stick around for one more issue but I will drop it if I get the same vibe about Tony’s inclusion.

  1. I agree that Iron Man’s inclusion is as random as Rocket finding that splinter of Groot through all that wreckage
