This was too much fun. Just to get it out of the way, this book wasn’t my pick of the week because it seemed to end a bit too quickly. When reading the opening sequence you may think, “This is like that Star Trek reboot.” kinda? I don’t know, I didn’t see it. I just know the premise. Any ways if you read the 0.1 issue you may think Peter’s father is a sympathetic character. Well in the 30 years later he’s kind of a dick, but at the same time you understand he’s giving Peter tough love (in my opinion anyway). Action quickly ensues with the appearance of Gamora, if only for a page or two before the real violence happens. If you think Iron Man’s involvement is random and you’re waiting for a good explanation for why he’s there, greatly lower your expectaions. He’s just there in space when the Badoon shows up. Side note: The Badoon weren’t in the Marvel Universe before The Avengers movie correct? If so it seems Marvel just added them into their list of alien races to to be every heroes punching bag. I mean they literally get their asses handed to them on a silver platter. Their leader gets decapitated and the only damage they do the the Guardians is from a last ditch effort kamikaze strike. I picked up this book because I’m excited about the upcoming movie and I know little to nothing about the Guardians. So yeah I was vastly entertained seeing Rocket Raccoon blast a space ship with a gun bigger than him and Groot just be Groot. Also I didn’t know Rocket and Groot are such good buddies. The cliffhanger will probably make you roll your eyes because you’ve most likely seen it on blu-ray/dvd *cough* Avengers *cough* also I don’t know why Gamora thinks she knows what Peter’s father was planning all along. I don’t think I’ve read anything drawn by Steve McNiven, but after reading online that Nova is getting a new artist I hope Steve sticks around cause I don’t know if this book will be as awesome without him.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. The Chitauri were the alien race in the Avengers movie. The Badoon actually have a very long history in the Marvel universe. In the far future of the original Guardians of the Galaxy, the badoon are one of the Galaxy’s dominant empires while the Shi’ar, for instance, are no longer a mighty power.
