As a lapsed Green Lantern reader (there are a lot of us out there, right?) this book has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the DC relaunch. I totally agree with every fan who had been complaining about the direction the GL book was taking before the New 52 initiative, with endless meandering plotlines revolving around the many different coloured Corps, and that’s why I’m finding Geoff Johns’ back to basics approach here so refreshing. The twist of Sinestro being reinstated as a GL and Hal basically having to do as he’s told by his arch enemy in order to regain his ring is one that’s full of potential and interesting possibilities.
The art team also seem to be reinvigorated by the new status quo and Doug Mankhe is producing what is probably some of the finest work of his career to date on this book. The double page spread of Hal in this issue is a good example, a gorgeous, bold image full of power and dynamism.
After a long absence, I’m hooked right back into this title and I only hope that Johns can keep up the momentum these first two issues have generated.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
