So, THIS is what people are talking about when they go on about how great Geoff Johns is. I’ve been reading his previous, non-reimagined Green Lantern series in trade for a few years now, and other than Rebirth and the Sinestro Corpse War, I’m not really feeling the greatness that’s supposed to be found there. This book, on the other hand, shows me that Johns can bring the human drama along with the big, multicolored space battles I’ve grown used to. For the first time I can remember, I care about Hal Jordan as a person, and Sinestro doesn’t come off as a twisted fascist, but as a believable protaganist who really thinks he’s doing what’s right for his world. Do I think Sinestro will remain a Green Lantern? Of course not. Am I looking forward to seeing him team with Hal against his former corpse? Oh yes.
ODoug Mahnke is now my favorite GL artist. The panels showing Sinestro’s alien-looking constructs vs. Hal’s Earth-based creations were brilliant, and the emotions on the charaters faces where sopt-on. Combine all this with David Baron’s colors (Sinestro’s got BLACK fingernails, but it works for him), and I’ll definitely be coming back next month.

Story: 4 - Very Good

  1. Nicely Said! This I wasn’t going to get but after reading Issue 1 I HAVE to get issue 2 and its not on my regular pull list with my local comic shop.

I am assuming “Corpse” is really supposed to be “Corps” 😉

  2. Good review that pretty much sums up what I thought of this issue too. The pace was fast though, when I arrived to the “continued in…” panel I was like: what, already!? 0_o
