Looks like more people are deciding to jumping onto this title now that Tony Moore is taking over the art chores. That's cool with me, I've been enjoying GR under Aaron's guiding hand for months. That is until last issue, which felt thin and anti-climactic. Well with this issue, comes another complaint. Ghost Rider is officially a legacy character, which I'm okay with conceptually. What I'm not okay with is how the concept is being handled. Nazi Killing GR's, Redneck GR's... it all just seems like "coolness for coolness's sake". I know, I'm talking about a character that's a flaming skeleton that rides a motorcycle, he's the epitome of a character created to be "cool". But, it feels like Aaron is being way too self consciously clever about the whole thing. That's a big problem I have with a lot of modern comics. There's an ironic distance that writers tend to set up between themselves and their characters that makes me not want to become invested. If they're not taking this stuff seriously, why should I? And as for the story as a whole, the "we went our seperate ways after the battle" thing seemed weird after the ending of last issue. So, let me get this straight, Danny Ketch falls down from the heavens and lands in a giant crater, naked, huddled in the fetal position; Blaze is near death and it's just, "check ya later"? This issue skipped things that were important to the story for the sake of random "cool" scenes that came off as masturbatory. A book like "Guardians Of The Galaxy", which has a talking raccoon AND a sentient tree in it's cast doesn't have to fall back on cheapness to be compelling. "Ghost Rider" shouldn't have to, either.
