Forgive me for taking the easy bait, but since BOTH major companies just happened to unleash their big events this month on the same day, I can't resist making a comparison between the two, especially when the two arealmost polar opposites.  While Secret Invasion has felt like a fluffed-up piece that feels slow and without proper active pacing, Final Crisis has so far been this rapid-fire spiral of interlocking plot thread and a piano full of progression launching down upon a poor Daffy Duck of a reader.  Think of the plot threads we saw in the first couple issues that are either wrapped up more or less or have taken a left turn into a whole can of worms.  Turpin?  He's Darkseid now.  The Alpha Lanterns?  They're done.  The JLA?  Scattered and fractured.  Orion's murder?  Pretty much solved.  The amount of information packed densely into these issues is utterly insane.

If you thought the first couple issues had that low-key Identity Crisis-esque feel to it, this issue and last grabbed a hammer, smashed that notion into tiny little bits and then fed it to their pet sharks.  This book cranked up the scale to eleven as Darkseid and his disguised minions overthrow everything.  As the two Flashes attempt to make sense of it all, we see the last vestiges of Earth's heroes grasping at sraws before everything goes to seed.  The amount of chaos and intensity Morrison throws into these pages, aided immensely by JG Jones and Carlos Pacheco, is massive.  The feeling of oncoming death and already-present doom is palpable from the Anti-Life wave on the first page to that last image of the returning Darkseid signaling the end of man and the rise of Earth's new God King. 

This is the best of Morrison's JLA made king size.  His flair for the high concept and the wildly cosmic serves him well in this series so far.  The detailed, rich pencils of J.G Jones continue to be soimply stellar and the introduction of Carlos Pacheco though fairly small, continues to make everything feel big and epic.  The Ragnarok of the DC Universe seems to have come and now we will all have to see how it will survive "The Day Evil Won."
