I was surprised to have enjoyed this book so much, but there was quite a bit to like. First and foremost, BMB’s characterization of Doom was excellent. The interaction of Doom with Normon Osborn was particularly entertaining, as Osborn sees Doom as a means to an end, and Doom sees Osborn as a third-rate nothing who happens to have hit the lottery in recent months. Their mutual disregard was probably the most exciting aspect of the book.

The bit with the Sentry at the end was rather intriguing as well. I am often intrigued by the Sentry, as I have this bizarre faith that somehow this character will pay off at some point. Less impressive was the team dynamic, and this is a problem, since Dark Avengers is a team book. Bullseye’s threat to kill Venom was mildly amusing, but the rest of the characters seemed much like afterthoughts.

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the book as it continues over the next few months will be to witness Osborn’s successes as they are followed by an inevitable crash. Will Noh-Var and Ares really hang around to support their boss? I am curious.
