What can be said about this series that hasn’t already been said dozens of times? It is quite simply one of the finest examples of sequential art and storytelling that money can buy!
So many sequences in this issue bear witness to this fact- the beautiful two page splash of DD perched above a caravan of moloids; his journey along a subterranean river on top of a floating coffin, where the limitations of our hero’s radar sense are revealed in a stunning jump cut from his POV to ours; the Black Cat’s betrayal and theft, her guilty pause portrayed in an elegant close up of her clawed hand; the final, cliffhanging tumble. This is an absolute master class from Paolo Rivera and Mark Waid, not to mention the book’s unsung hero, colourist Javier Rodriguez. Anyone who loves comics should be reading Daredevil right now. It is as fine an example of what can be achieved in the superhero genre as I can think of, and a shining example of how good mainstream comics can be.

  1. I read the first issue for this and then set it aside because I caught up in a bunch of the New 52. Maybe I will have to check out the TPB when it comes out. Daredevil is probably one of my favorite Marvel characters when done correctly.

  2. I can tell Waid’s on fire. You know that your comics dollars can only go so far!

  3. The New 52 got me looking at comics again after years (YEARS) away. I’m still enjoying a few DC titles (Batman, Action, Swamp Thing), but it was a Marvel book (this one) that absolutely wrapped me back into it. This Daredevil run has been absolutely beautifully drawn and compellingly written.

  4. That splash is definitely maybe my favorite moment of the series. Paolo is a force to be reckoned with.

If you don’t follow his blog, there’s a good chance you’re missing out.
