This was a very nice Sharon Carter character sketch. Conor often notes that he likes “filler” books, and, on the surface, this might qualify. However, it fits well within the current Captain America paradigm – following Bucky, Sharon, and Falcon over the long term. Moreover,  in his own subtle way, Ed Brubaker has done a nice job of hinting at some of the drama that will be coming in the next few months.

I still miss Steve Epting, and I don’t know if I will get past it. The other artists who come onto this title always do a solid job (as Ross did this week), but it’s not the same. It’s close, but not the same. It’s ironic that I am missing a guy named Steve on this book, but I am sure that I am not the only one making this observation.

This is not the best Cap of the year, or even one which will stick out, but it is one that will deserve a re-read in a couple of years, if for no other reason than to teach us a bit more about Sharon Carter, who is a strong character.

  1. I was also thinking of Conor’s comments on "filler" when I read this — I know this issue will feel extraneous to some but I thought that giving Sharon some time to reflect was just what this story needed, and I’m now geared up for #50.
