I'll admit I was worried going into this issue. I have fond memories of Greg Rucka's run on Wonder Woman, but would this issue be the return to greatness I was hoping for or would it be proof that you can't go home again? I'm happy to report that not only can you go home again, but also that sometimes home is better than you remember.

Although the set up for the issue is fairly predictable - Wonder Woman faces off against the Black Lantern Maxwell Lord, who originally died at her hands - the execution is anything but. Lord makes interesting use of his powers, raising a cemetery of fallen soldiers to fight Wonder Woman. Even the structure of the issue is unexpected, with this first issue feeling more like a one-shot than the first part of a three issue mini. And Nicola Scott's art is the perfect match to Rucka's script, balancing a classy representation of Wonder Woman with zombie awesomeness.

But it's Rucka's characterization of Wonder Woman that really sells this issue, capturing the complexities of a battle-tested warrior who is driven by her love for humanity. As Diana says, "Life is much more than seven simple colors," and there's no one better at capturing the diverse spectrum than Rucka.
