I have never been a fan of Hudlin’s run on this character
due to his combination of revisionist history, the forced and unnecessary marriage,
and completely obnoxious Mary-Sue like handling of the main character (go read
the annual from a few years ago for the worst example of this). So I was
surprised to find myself actually enjoying this issue. While I found her obnoxious
in the first arc, the new Panther came off much better in this issue displaying
just the right mix of bad ass and newbieness to make her interesting. Meanwhile
back at home for possibly the first time in his run Hudlin actually writes T’challa
in a manner consistent with his long term portrayal in the larger Marvel
Universe. I also want make note of the well written sequence featuring a Wakanda
political talk show. Hudlin accurately captures the kind of discussion and
patter that accompanies these shows and this in turn helps make Wakanda more of
a real country. (Amazingly) Recommend.
