A lot of people seem to be making a big deal about this issue, but I just don’t get it. Was the art absolutely fantastic? Yes. But at the same time, the art is fantastic in it’s own way. It’s a very unique style. It isn’t even a style that I typically like, but it worked well with the world that they have decided to create for Batwing.

Now that I’ve covered the art, it’s time to talk about the writing. I can’t quite place my finger on it, but the writing in this book seriously did nothing for me. I was excited for this book, and I feel kind of let down. It wasn’t horrible, but I don’t think I will be picking up the next issue. The story is good, but the way it is executed through Winick’s writing just wasn’t working for me. I hated the way that they basically tied the beginning and the end together, which essentially gave the ending away. To me, that format always works better with novels. With comics, this format doesn’t work so well from my point of view. I read this book three times and I’m still not really feeling it. I may cave in and try one more issue because I had been so excited for this book, but I will tell you that issue 1 just didn’t sell it for me.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. I tried to give the art a 4, but the system just isn’t having it, I guess. Story is definitely a 2 though…
