Of the new 52 I have read this week, Batwing is the one feels most like a set-up issue. Being that they are all number ones, they all are to some extent but it is most obvious here. It does it's job well, there just isn't a lot to set-up. David Zavimbe is a clean cop in a corrupt system by a day, Batwing by night. He has his own Alfred as well as the one clean police officer in his precinct to rely on. The villain is appropriately evil if somewhat unoriginal and the mystery behind is act is barely interesting, but the cliffhanger is ruined by the beginning. The art is fantastic, but again there isn't much in it so every page is almost a splash page. I want to like it but if this is the pace, I don't think I can pick up issue 2.
