OK, I just finished my third reading of Batman #680 and it's starting to make a little more sense.  I stress little because I am part of the "I Believe in Grant Morrison" crowd and I have faith that after the next and final issue, most of this will be explained.

Here's what I liked about this issue.  The scene between Bat-Mite and Zur-En-Arrh Batman is great.  It's like Bruce is slowly coming back to sanity and he uses Bat-Mite as a sounding board on his trip back to reason (or whatever Batman calls reason).  Bat-Mite also has my favorite line in the book when Batman asks if he is from the 5th dimension or a figment of his imagination.  Bat-Mite responds "Imagination is the 5th Dimension.  Some world's greatest detective you are."

In this issue we finally get to see the "Clown at Midnight" Joker in action for the first time and it is extremely creepy.  When I was re-reading and re-re-reading it I was still creeped out by him slicing his tongue.  Very fitting for him but very creepy.  I also kept hearing his dialogue as a very even-toned calm voice similar to the lobotomized Joker in the Justice Lords episode of Justice League animated.

Damien shows up in a very Robin-esque pose so my Damien-will-be-Robin theory is holding up I guess.  Also, in that scene, what is holding Talia's top on??  League of Assassins brand double sided tape?

The final 11 pages are absolute page turners.  I had to slow myself down because I just wanted to fly right through them and get to the end.  Did I mention that new Joker incarnation is awesome??  Well, it is.  Tony Daniel draws the scariest joker ever.

The end?  My take is this.  I had thought that Jezebel might be the Black Glove when she was in the cave with Bruce a few issues back and this seems to support that she is, in fact the BG.  I had heard a theory somewhere that Jezebel Jet is the human incarnation of the devil himself and this would tie into the Batman #666 issue where Damien says he made a deal with the devil when he was fourteen to save Gotham.  The art on the last two pages is just plain beautiful.  The expression on Bruce Wayne's face is incredible, perfectly capturing a man on the VERY edge of totally losing it and accepting it while Joker taunts him.

The final line of the story is directed at Bruce Wayne and the reader.  "Now do you get it?"  I don't completely get it yet, but we're one issue away from Morrison's self-proclaimed biggest Batman event in all of the character's history.
