If you haven’t been enjoying the Batman RIP storyline thus far this issue will not change your mind. However, those of you who enjoyed the first two issues but were slightly let down by #678 will be pleased with this. Morrison fills us in on the Batman of Zur-en-Arrh and I like what he did with it, but based upon who we receive the information from I’m not so sure we can totally believe it just quite yet. Similarly, we find out more about the Black Glove and Doctor Hurt, but who knows what will actually end up being true after another two issues. Regardless of whether it turns out to be true, which I highly doubt, it adds to the character of Doctor Hurt and the overall devilishness of the Black Glove which is important to this story. After multiple readings this issue began to feel more like set up for the big return of you know who, but a lot still happened and even if we can’t believe it all as being true, it was entertaining, thought-provoking, and above all worked within the story. However, even though a lot happened and things were flushed out some more Morrison is still leaving a lot of things in the closet which is fine by me because he has me wanting more and believing that it will pay off. Relax, realize you don’t need to know all the answers in advance, and enjoy the ride.

  1. Actually I thought he first three issues were just shy of horrendous but I mostly liked this issue.

  2. Glad you enjoyed it, but I’m surprised that this was the first you liked. I think the first issue was fine even though if you had been reading Morrison’s run it was kind of bland. Thought the second issue was great, and while I enjoyed the third I understood why lots of people had a problem with it.

  3. It’s strange that people have so many differing views. I thought this issue, while good, was a big letdown from the previous two. I thought #677 in particular was excellent.

  4. This is the first one that I actually really liked.  I think this was the one that was the turning point for a lot of people.

  5. I think 677 was the best so far too. The impression I got was that most people really liked the first two but got turned off on things by 678. But yeah, I think it is awesome people have such different views and takes on this stuff.

  6. Man ive read all my morrison batmans a couple times and granted i donth ave many i think morrison does an awsome job with batman. This storyline has been awsome so unique and original and i cant wait to read every issue. I love all the complexity and the use of every character in the book hell even alfred is a badass in this book. I cant wait to see where this ends up. By the way i have a feeling Azreal is gonna show up somewhere in this storyline.
