I had to sleep on this one. It took time to come up with the right words to define it. This is what I came up with:

phe-nom-e-nal, doot doo da doot doo

that’s the best i can do phonetically..

The pencils in this were incredible and the coloring set a heavy tone for the story . I can really feel darkness overtaking everything as it progresses. The Bat’s in a vulnerable place, fortunately he’s still got his wits about him. I don’t think anyone understands him better than Alfred and it’s a joy to hear him talk about Master Bruce.

Morrison’s put together a gem here. I don’t know that I’ve ever been more scared of Joker. Cannot wait for Dark Knight!

    I loved the pages where Alfred was talkin’ about how awesome Bruce is … but in a non-kiss-ass way. I agree with ya about the art — very good, and like you it’s hard for me to put this issue into words because … I’m not sure I really get it (yet?). Maybe I need to read the next issue or two for things to fall into place, or maybe I am just dumb as a house brick.

    Wasn’t anyone else confused by The Joker bit at the end?  Admittedly, Morrison often pulls this kind of stuff only to reveal all later, but as awesome as the gruesomeness was, I couldn’t tell what was actually happening with The Joker.

    The way I read it, the Doctor was giving The Joker the Rorschach ink blot test, and the pages we saw was what was going on in his mind … but he was saying all he was seeing was "Another pretty flower". Creepy as hell, but awesome.

    admittedly, i too am a bit confused by what’s going on with The Joker, which, indeed, makes it all the more scary. i’m taking what i got from DC Universe Zero and going with it – there are very bad people who want the Bat dead. seems to me that Joker is one of those very bad people.

    he’s scaring me. i like that.

    I do agree with the art. Don’t understand the story yet, so i can’t really say if I agree. One question thought, why couldn’t Tony Daniel have been this good when he was on Teen Titans?

    This is hilarious, b/c I’m rereading ‘Watchmen.’  And yesterday I read the Dr. Manhattan-focused issue (and then read x-men Legacy issue where Xavier goes back to the Southwestern base where he had issues with his Daddy).  And today I read the Rorschach issue where he’s looking at the inkblots, seeing nasty things, and telling the doctor he sees ‘pretty butterfies, and ‘nice flowers’.  Which Morrison is obviously using in those Joker scenes.

    Not complaining at all — it’s more like, ‘wow, that Alan Moore has some staying power.’
