BPRD Hell on Earth:The Pickens County Horror #2 concludes the intriguing story of Agents Vaughn and Peters as they investigate a mysterious fog appearing in the hills of Pickens County, South Carolina, but, in BPRD tradition, there is more waiting for our heroes than they expect.
As issue #2 opens, Agent Vaughn waits for Agent Peters to recover from a previous vampire attack. Vaughn listens as Professor Ethan Thomas, a vampire historian who saved the Agents, reveals that vampires have been killing in order to prepare for the vampire apocalypse.
It's at this point in the story that the supernatural goodness that BPRD is known for, rears it's head. A deformed, hideous Agent Peters, who was thought to be recouping, bursts into the room and attacks Vaughn. While in the scuffle, Agent Peters screams and dissolves into a lime-green spirit, who continues the battle until Agent Vaughn brandishes a cross, repelling the strange phantom. As the story approaches it's end, it becomes apparent that two events are happening simultaneously, the vampire apocalypse and a bizarre fog with possessive powers.
Written by Mike Mignola and Scott Allie, The Pickens County Horror is riveting and full of excitement. Jason Latour's art adds to the edgy and often nervous feeling that stays constant in the story. This series was able to take the bigger idea of a strange, global happening and mix it with a smaller, separate event, to create another classic tale that only BPRD can deliver.
