Cover by Jae Lee

Size: 32 pages

This weeks issue is one big tease. First off we have the gorgeous Jae Lee cover that’s hard to resist when glancing at the comic stands. Then you flip the issue open, only to be greeted by John Paul Leon’s interior art which is worth the price of admission. And finally it ends with two pages from Timothy Green II.

Safe to say I’m happy that there’s no Steve Pugh in sight, until next month.

This issue kicks off what I can only imagine is going to be a new direction for Animal Man. After the last few tragedy soaked issues, this one focuses more on buildup. We get a break from Buddy’s current issues only to delve into the world of “Tights” the indie super-hero flick that Buddy starred in on some of his downtime. It’s a welcome change of pace, and the art is enough to make you forget that this is still Animal Man.

While the story doesn’t do anything new or terribly exciting, it’s solid enough to make you care about both the movie-verse and the larger scope of Buddy’s story.

The last page teases a new change for our Animal Man, and I’ll be interested to see what departures Lemire will be making from what we’re used to. It’s bound to be an exciting next few months for Animal Man fans.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
