So, as someone who hates OMD/BND on principle, bringing back Ben Reilly
is kind of a dream, because, I started reading the book right before
the clone saga, and I will admit that OMD has been some good stories.
So either BND will bring back a character I liked well, or it will crash and burn and get them to reverse it. It's win win for me.
So with that in mind, I picked up this book, knowing this would probably directly tie into the "Who is Ben Reilly?" story that's coming up soon.
For starters, this book had Pat Oliffe art. I've been a fan of his since he worked with Kurt Busiek to recapture the feel of the original Lee/Ditko run on Untold Tales.
However, and maybe it was the inker's fault, I really didn't care for him this issue.
It wasn't bad, it just looked kind of sketchy. Sketchy like a back alley not sketchy like a rushed pencil job, by the way.
The art gave of the same impression Sal Buscema's work did, and I don't care for Buscema.
The story was interesting. I am really glad to see Pete's family expanded. This is the kind of addition to the cast that I can get behind, even after 40+ years of story.
I liked the action, but I'm kind of vague on what Raptor's powers are.
Did he just happen to have the machine gun on him? can he shape change?
Does he have claws in his arms like movie Deadpool?
What's up with his jaw?
I saw all the things he did, but for some reason, it doesn't fit into a cohesive whole for me.
Plus the fact that the character he wants to kill is very likely Kaine, or at best a variation on that theme, I don't feel any sort of suspense for this story arc. Still, it was overall good and I like the direction.
