Slott had the chance here to do a fairly interesting story where Peter had to defeat a villain and save a friend without the costume. I mean, it would be too much to explain why Spider-Man randomly showed up in suburban New Jersey at the same moment Peter, who had been highly visible to the rest of the cast, suddenly disappeared. Instead, this is addressed with a nonsensical bit of dialogue where Peter claims Spider-Man is nearby because they're friends. It's further muddied when Norman rationalizes the situation, guessing that Peter called him. That explanation might pass for some, but for me it's more of the Same Old Crap. Whenever Slott or Guggenheim, the touted Spidey-Brain Trust, place their hands directly on this book, everyone either turns into a douchebag, gets really dumb, or someone who knows street gymnastics proves to be faster than Spider-Man. There's an overall theme with Slott trying to explain some of the nonsense created in the wake of One More Day. Some of it's ok. Some of it falls on its face. Decidely, I like this title much better when you bring in writers who aren't impeded by this grand vision of polishing a turd, and give us good, old-fashioned Spidey comics. And this is not that.

Let’s see:
ASM #575-579 got a lot of great ratings because they had very little to do with BND and just did their own fun stories.
While these last two issues of the title has gotten medicore reviews because they focus too much on the BND story aspects and then hamper the writer from telling a good story…
……I’m starting to see a trend here….but what? 🙂
I agree, this is a sucky issue.
Wait a minute…isn’t Peter making a colossally lame excuse to justify Spider-Man’s appearance something he’s done for about the last 581 issues? If you demand old-fashioend Spidey comics, it stands to reason that Peter making up a lame justification for Spider-Man shouldn’t bother you so much.
