This is typical of Grant Morrison.
While the majority of his run on Action Comics has meandered into obscure, disjointed storytelling, here comes a singular, amazing one-off!! A one-and-done story that is beautifully rendered, both artistically and in prose.
Here’s a theory…
When we read a one-and-done from Grant, it doesn’t matter that his story jumps from one thought (say, for example, page 1 and 2) to a completely independent thought on page 3 and 4, because he’s going to wrap up all of these independent thoughts (mess of thoughts??) by the end of his 22-page script. One-and-done. And, it all makes sense and it combs together seamlessly into a great story.
The problems happen when he gets involved in long, expansive arcs. Some thought processes take a year to flush out and the reader — not knowing what it was about a year ago — likely disregarded important details back in arc #1 that are relevant in, say, arc #4. Maybe Morrison has a photographic memory. He can remember vividly all of these obscure details.
Drives me nuts!!
More one-and-dones from Grant Morrison. Less 2-year, expansive, globe-trotting arcs, and we’re happy readers…
This one-and-done gets 5’s

Drives me nuts too at times and I find myself thinking, should a comic be that hard to digest? But he’s hard to ignore…
He is.
(Hard to ignore…)
