  1. " If you’ve been wondering what MARK MILLAR had planned for ULTIMATES 3, then wonder no more this is it!"

What does that mean, exactly? Are these characters Ultimate Avengers clones? New characters put into the story Millar had planned for Ultimates 3?

    *scratches head*

  2. Just found this online … Mark Millar talking about this book —

"We’ve described this book as our Ultimates 3… all the stuff you can’t really get away with in a shared universe or a PG book… and I very much see it as the third act in a trilogy.
Ultimates 1 was about the America getting super-soldiers, Ultimates 2 was about the world getting nervous and fighting back against the idea, only to be defeated by America and War Heroes (Ultimates 3 in a sense) is all about America then getting very aggressive in her foreign policy and just taking over the entire Middle East. I wanted to split Ultimates into two books, one being Ultimate Avengers where the traditional heroes fought Ultimate Kang and so on. The other would have been Ultimates 3 where Fury’s super-powered troops would be in tens of thousands and just out there fighting the good fight, as controversial as that would have been. But considering Congress gets bombed on page two it was clear this wouldn’t work in a shared universe (even the Ultimate universe) and so I came up with War Heroes to finish this story."

    Awesome.

After how much Ultimates 3 has licked balls, I can’t wait to read this! The REAL third act. 🙂

  3. @wadewilson I agree. I even know what they mean by that (this story idea comes out of something Millar was planning to do for Ultimates 3)  and I’m still confused. Why are they marketing it this way. There was even a quote in add for this with Bryan Hitch saying something like, "We should have done this as ultimates 3!" Get over it, Millar, you’re not doing Ultimates 3. And that’s okay.

  4. I wish Millar was still doing Ultimates. I cant stand Jeph Loebs story. But regardless if this was/would have/or is Ultimates 3 it looks awesome. I can not wait for this book!!! The story sounds great and the art looks fantastic.

  5. I agree. I thought they should have kept Millar on Ultimates as long as he wanted, similar to that of Bendis on Ultimate Spiderman. Ultimates 3 blows and the one paragraph heading for this book is already ten times better than all the issues of U3 so far. Totally looking forward to this although i dont know if i like the art.

  6. This is a mini I assume?  How many issues?

  7. I had no idea Millar had more plans for Ultimates, I’m shocked they would take him off the book after it was so awesome. I figured he was done with the book.

What were the suits at Marvel thinking?

"Hey, Ultimates has been one of the best comics for the last few years & the fans seem to love it, so how about we get rid of Millar & get Loeb on board to tell a confusing pointless story that has nothing to do with Ultimates 1 & 2?"

    "Hell yeah, dude!" *high five*

    I don’t get it.

  8. that is an incredibly bombastic solicitation.  This book better be five exclamation marks worth of awesome for that kind of hyperbole.

  9. @cutty: I believe it is a 6 issue mini. I don’t think I can wait on the trade for this one (I seem to be having that problem lately and it’s costing my dearly).

  10. I’ve never trade-waited before, but I think I’ll start with this.  I assume Tony Harris artwork looks great in hardcover

  11. Here’s some preview pages —

It looks pretty good to me!

  12. Don’t read this expecting Kick Ass #1 with regards to action and shocking events. This book is mostly set-up and reads fairly quickly (as do most single issues these days) but has a lot of potential. Right now Mark Millar is at the top of my list of writers I am enjoying reading (under Jason Aaron of course) with his work on Kick Ass, 1985 and Wolverine. Hopefully with issue #2, War Heroes will also join the ranks. Great art by Tony Harris (very similar to what he is doing in Ex Machina).

  13. Mark Millar’s afterward at the end of this issue is embarrassing. The guy sounds like he is on a massive ego trip!

Fact is the Harris art is the best thing about it and even that is not his best…
