SUPERIOR #1 (OF 6)

Ollie Janson had it all going for him: plenty of friends at school, good looks, and his coach called him one of the most talented basketball players he’s ever seen. But that was when he could still move his legs. Now he’s living with multiple sclerosis, missing all the little things he used to take for granted, and escaping into the world of movies and comics with his best friend.

Then… SUPERIOR entered his life.

The newest smash superhero comic from MARK MILLER (KICK-ASS, NEMESIS, OLD MAN LOGAN) and his ULTIMATE AVENGERS 2 collaborator LEINIL FRANCIS YU (SECRET INVASION, NEW AVENGERS, ULTIMATE WOLVERINE VS. HULK) is sure to be the most talked-about new series of 2010!

  1. You wish.

  2. Hmm considering how bad both the recent Ultimate Avengers arc, Clint Magazine and Nemesis have been… I’m honestly not sure that I want to trust Millar with anymore of my money

  3. Ultimate Avengers has been awful! Nemesis has been abysmal! I’m gonna wait til this is reprinted in Clint, because, right now – that’s the only way I’d want to read any of Mark Millar’s stuff.

  4. For whatever reason Superior makes me think of white supremisist…not a good thing. I like Yu though, and who knows maybe this will know

  5. I’ve been on a huge Yu kick as of lately, as I’ve been reading alot of the books he did way back when. Naturally, I’m very excited for this, as these creator owned books seem to bring out the best in talented artists.

The story seems pretty intriguing, also. From reading the solicits, this story seems to be a departure from the hyper action stories that Millar has been telling lately…not that I don’t like them, I think that they have all been expertly written. This story just seems to have a little more heart, but we’ll be sure of this when we read this on Wednesday.

  6. This seems to be more in line with 1985 than with Millar’s other works which sounds great to me

  7. From what I’m hearing, it looks like Millar’s actually trying to make a story here instead of just throwing hackneyed shock value at the reader like in Nemesis, so I might give this a shot.

  8. This seems to be what Millar’s really been working on all this time.

  9. You guys should check out the preview art for this. It looks like Yu dropped down a notch just like McNiven did with Nemesis

  10. Wow, the Millar haters instantly come out in droves on iFanboy.

Does that mean this is another surefire HIT?

  11. @kickass: oh, for sure. There’s no way i’m not buying this

  12. Well, I really hope this is good, the only stuff I like from Millar is Kick-Ass and the first two Ultimates series. Everything else has been okay to horrible. But those two I like I REALLY like.

  13. *gasps*

    Another Millar mini series?

    *gasps*

It’s already green lit for a film?

    *gasps*

Third issue won’t come out till April!?

Sounds like Mark Millar to me.

  14. Met Leinil Yu at NYCC on Saturday, bought his sketch book, which had to be the most creatively devised sketch book there.

Superior does kinda look like he’s wearing a WWF championship belt or something.

  15. Loving Nemesis. Plus I would read the phone book if Yu was doingnthe pencils. In for this.

  16. "The newest smash superhero comic… sure to be the most talked-about new series of 2010!"

    ZzzZzzzZzzzZzzzz

  17. I am sick of reading Mark Millar’s movie pitches.

  18.   I could say a handful of things about recent Millar comics.. But When it comes down to it Wednesday, I’ll be picking it up

  19. @MrPopular  agreed. Between Ultimates 1 & 2, Kick-Ass, 1985 and Old Man Logan I just have to pick this up. Sure the last batch of ultimates wasn’t the best but it was fun, which really is all i’m looking for

  20. The third issue is slated for a December release…misinformed comment or lame joke?

  21. @comicbookchris: December!? LOL. Like that’s gonna happen.

I’m sure Nemesis #3 was scheduled to be released in May; but we all know that didn’t happen.

I’m sure Kick Ass #3 was scheduled to be released in April; but we all know that didn’t happen.

  22. Yu is fast though. he didn’t miss a step with Secret invasion. Old Man Logan And Nemesis were late because McNiven is slow…. i think

  23. The character "Superior" reminds me of the leader of "the Seven" from The Boys.  The risk of missing out is too great to not pick this one up.    See ya at Illusive!

  24. I think that at least part of this is Millar writing another love letter to Superman.  This is not a bad thing, but I will be more interested in the other aspects of the book.

Yu still rocks.  I love the scratchy style.

  25. @ Everyone – The thread of this story reminded me a bit of the old sci-fi tale…The Last Star Fighter.

  26. An average rating of 5.1 on a 5 star system? Pfeh. Typical Millar hype.

  27. This surprised me with how much I liked it.  Sort of a different take on the classic Superman archetype.  Yu’s art was great too.

  28. Loved it.  5/5.  POTW.  Pure fun.  Big meets Superman.

  29. Dananananananananana Space Monkey!

  30. Enjoying this so far . . .

  31. @2Kwon – I mean not really, cus in The Last Starfighter, the aliens actually implanted those arcades in search of an expert shooter for a war that actually existed.  This space monkey or trans-dimensional primate seems to have given Ollie a fantasy wish come true, but to what end is the question.

  32. 1985

  33. I liked the art but this just seemed sort of uninspired to me.  Not thinking I’ll pick up #2, which is surprising since generally Millar has been a solid hit with me…lovin’ Nemesis, for instance.  But this, I dunno, it was like Shazam meets 1985 and really aimed at the kiddie crowd.

  34. 4/5 I liked it. I don’t think a book that uses the language contained in this one is "aimed at the kiddie crowd" but it’s not in the same vein as Kick-Ass or Nemesis, either. Yu is a great artist, and I like the bit in the back where Millar vows that they will (uncharacteristically for him) get the book out on schedule.

  35. jesus, that was a weak arse first issue

  36. You got to give Millar credit for hilighting MS but the whole story should have taken two pages.  I read it and feel like I actually paid for a primer copy that comes free at a con or something similar.

  37. I’m surprised no on has said the word SHAZAM…

  38. oh except that one other guy.

  39. Gomer Pyle?

  40. am i the only one who saw Delaney Williams as the cop

  41. Reminds me of Big, a bit too derivative of it for me to try the second issue.
