  1. So this isnt the start of New Krypton? Whew! For a second there I thought I had to spend money on a series I didnt want to read yet….Maybe this could be good if it’s a new direction….maybe.

  2. @TheNextChampion I’m under the impression this is the precursor to New Krypton. By next month, this book is going to be knee deep in the crossover. This is the new team that’s going to be on Supergirl while it ties into the greater Superman Universe (Action and Superman proper) and this is a good place to start. I saw some penciled pages at Comic-Con. Really looking forward to this…

  3. gonna pull this this week and give it a shot…. see what happens here.

  4. I like that cover!

  5. I agree – it is a nice cover from Josh Middleton.  However, the real draw for me is Jamal Igle’s pencils.  I’m pretty sure that if wasn’t on the book that I wouldn’t even bother giving this series a try (*sigh* again)!

  6. I haven’t bought this since issue #12, but since it’s going to have something to do with the Superman books, I’m gonna give it a try. I hope they really find a purpose for this book though…It was pretty aimless when I was reading it before, I only enjoyed #12 for the Amanda Conner art (and the story by Palmiotti and Gray wasn’t bad).

  7. This is gonna’ be really good.  I can’t freaking wait for New Krypton…and those little numbered cover diamonds!  Action Comics, Superman and Adventures of Superman were some of the first comics I ever read in the early ninetie’s and I always loved that they tied together like they did and those cover diamonds were probably the best system for telling what the order was.

  8. From what I’ve heard from Sterling Gates, he sounds like he has a pretty good handle on the charachter, though I haven’t ever read anything by him. It sounds like the superman creative teams have a nice overall strategy that Supergirl’s a big part of. Let’s just hope Gates can hold his own.

  9. My only problem with trying to jump on board with Supergirl (that’s what she said) is that I’ve done it too many times now. Too many times I’ve been promised that this is now going to work and that Supergirl will be more then a ditzy blond with a very revealing outfit. But time and time again the writers and artists seem to not get the hint that people want more to Supergirl then just being a ‘Barely Legal’ sex object.

If I am going to believe this is going into a new and better direction then I better pick this up at my store, open the page, and see light shining out of it. Confirming that not only does God exsist, but that this comic will be the next golden age of comics in general. Or that it’s a good story and has better plotting in it, what ever works out for me on Saturday.

  10. @TheNextChampion Dude. You want to like Supergirl. I get ya. Get this issue. Check it out. Buy it, even. No need to be insanely cynical. They’ve talked about their direction for her, and it’s more than we’ve heard about it from anyone since her reappearance. It’s got me excited… and I’m a huge fan of Supergirl, and I’ve wanted to like the book since it started and I really haven’t. This is the most I’ve been excited and anticipating for it in the past three years. Have the faith.

  11. @TheNextChampion You don’t need to pick it up if you don’t want. I plan on trying it out. If it’s any good, I’ll let you know. Trust your old pal Neal Appeal.

And by old pal, I of course mean, guy you’ve argued with on the internet a few times.

  12. What’s wrong with a super-powered ditzy blonde in a very revealing outfit?  Haven’t you ever wondered what the world would be like if Paris Hilton or Jessica Simpson had superpowers?

  13. Dumber

  14. @zenman – Where has Supergirl been shown to be ditzy?  Not in TEEN TITANS… not in ACTION COMICS… not in FINAL CRISIS…

  15. Clever cover. I might buy this comic if the main character didn’t wear a skin tight belly shirt and mini skirt.

  16. But I’m buying this issue *because* the main character wears a skin tight belly shirt and mini skirt.  ;o)

  17. @Conor – I jest … you are correct … just a response to NextChampion’s post, "Too many times I’ve been promised that this is now going to work and that Supergirl will be more then a ditzy blond with a very revealing outfit."

  18. I liked this a lot. Very solid on the character stuff. It’s a fun story, well told, though it’s not anything that would melt your face off. Same with the art. Jamal Igle is quite capable. He’s a good story teller. he does facial expressions and body language well, and comes up with a number a very striking images, though he is also not a melt your face off guy. I think this could be a really fun series.

One Cool thing, it looks like they are crediting the artists as photographers for all the newspaper stuff. The "photo" on the cover is by Joshua Middleton. The one on the first page is apparently by Jamal. I think that’s neat.

In terms of how it handled the common Supergirl problems as detailed by NextChampion, I think it did a good job. Yes she has still has the extreme bare-midrtif and short skirt combo, yes she is cute and blond, but she’s not drawn as a pin up. She is never posing. She’s not spending the whole comic arching her back, smiling coyly, and looking for anything on the ground that she might have to bend over and pick up. She’s acting like a person. Igle actually manages to make her look fairly wholesome, despite what she’s wearing. Also, she’s not ditzy. She’s obviously fairly intelligent. She just happens to be a teenager and occasionally screws things up a little.

Anyway, I’m excited we’re getting a superman book every week this month. Metropolis is a good place to be these days.

  19. I honestly can’t believe how much i liked this comic. Supergirls one of those charters that ive always liked but never really read that much of, and with this issue iam defiantly gonna be reading it for while. what else has sterling gates done? his name sounds familiar. and the art was amazing, it was nice to see an artist that dint draw supergirl looking slutty for a change

  20. You know what sucks.  When you’re girlfriend borrows your Supergirl comic before you have had a chance to read it so she can read it on her lunch break.  And then forgets to bring it home.  Now you have to wait until Friday evening to read it.  Thank God she is hot.

  21. Lana’s hair needed to be red. I loved this, but Lana not having red hair really made me sad and junk. It was also hard to tell who she was. When she walked up to Kara on the farm, I thought she was Cassie Sandsmark or something. Maybe she’s gone blonde, but there being three blonde leads in this threw me off quite a little bit.

Other than that, Pick of the WEEK!

  22. I thought I had every right to be nervous about this. I mean how many times have we had a ‘reboot’ or change of creative team for this girl? But I can say that this is a very promising issue and it’s been awhile but: I am actually happy to read another issue of Supergirl.

There still needs to be some things fixed out; like the art is a bit inconsistant and overall the story is a little uneven. But it was entertaining and I like where this is going. Sadly this has to go right into ‘New Krypton’ so we wont know how good this title will get until the event is over.
