SAGA #11

It’s an intergalactic family reunion, as Hazel’s parents and grandparents join forces to escape a dying world. Not to mention, there’s a bit of a misunderstanding between “Sexy Alana” and Marko. Safe sex isn’t something to take lightly when you’re on the lam, but it appears that in the heat of passion, caution always gets thrown to the wind. So what might be the future consequences?

  1. Gonna have to savour this issue & next months since there’s no Saga in May or June (I know the second trade is out in June), fingers crossed it’ll be back in July?!

  2. Wa-hoo!!!!!

  3. The way the last issue ended I can’t wait to read this.

  4. This is a huge week for me but Saga always has a shot to be POTW. It’s always a 5-star book in any case.

  5. I got my girlfriend into reading this. She caught up within 2 hours…now she’s dying to read each issue and is super frustrated it doesn’t come out faster. I created a monster!

  6. That goddamn cat better be alright.

  7. For all BKV fans…

    New today!

  8. OMG! Totally forgot about the cat!!! Definitely hope it’s ok!

  9. I just sold my whole saga run for $200. while I know I did pretty good with the price I got, I miss the shit out of this already.

    • Same and double that for Peter Panzerfaust. It’s insane. There’d better be an OHC of Saga solicited soon.

    • Why are people dumb enough to pay that much for comics? Especially ones that just came out, and the trade is available for only $10! I will never understand some people.

    • shocker Turd, comics are collectibles and worth money! some people only read comics for entertainment others like myself for entertainment and profit.

    • I know that comics and collectibles are worth money, and I’m not passing judgment on you for making a profit. I just think it is ridiculous for someone to pay that much for a comic that they can get anywhere else for a fraction of the price. I understand when it’s some historical issue that came out years ago; when there are only a few left in existence, but there are hundreds of thousands of issues of Saga out there, and I think it’s crazy to pay that much for it. It’s just a facet of collectibles and comics that bugs me.

    • Holy crap!! Just checked Ebay prices on first printing Peter Panzerfaust issues. Got to get on that!

    • You guys are killing me. I sold my first few issues of Peter Panzerfaust back to my LCS for, I believe, less than I bought them for in the first place.

  10. I hope lying cat’s okay.

  11. Its been a fun ride

  12. i know I’m am of the minority but i feel this is just meandering to nowhere. A book of pretty pictures peppered with dialogue that is intended to sound hip or controversial (you’ll know what i’m talking about after this issue in regards to the latter), while just coming off like it is trying to hard. BKV is a lot like Bendis to me, quipy, flashy, but short in substance. Of course, this is just IMO

  13. I’d fallen several issues behind on Saga and caught up with the last four issues just now. It is fantastic. BKV is great at final pages so I’m happy to be caught up.

One thing I noticed about this book – aside from Hazel’s brief narrations there are no captions. Everything you know about these characters is through what they actually say and do. I like that.

  14. best comic of the moment hands down!

  15. I still have eight comics to read in my stack, but I’m gonna go ahead and give this POTW.

Terrific issue, start to finish. I can’t remember the last time a creative team was this much in synch. BKV has always been a master of the single issue, but each issue of this series seems to flow smoother than any other. And so much of that credit goes to Staples. What an unbelievable talent. I have never fallen in love with a cast of characters (particularly Alana) so quickly before.

And seeing LC licking her paw safe and sound at the bottom of that page was the happiest moment of my week so far. You can call that sad if you want. I don’t care. It’s true.

  16. I come for the art. I really enjoy Fiona Staples. The concepts and ideas are really cool, but the dialogue can be a bit too quippy for my taste.

  17. It takes a lot for this to be a 5-star book and a 5-star book & POTW. This gets a POTW nod for having so much put into one issue and having a wonderful pace to it. From more back story of Alana/Marko, to the Will’s part of the story, to the emotional ending filled with dialogue I can’t even begin to figure out. Just all of this worked. The art by Fiona Staples was also, as always, just top notch and I’m sure I’m going to be combing through this later to see the little details I missed before. Finally, The Lying Cat lives!!

    5/5 (POTW)

  18. Saga is bugging the shit out of me. Why you ask? Well, let me bullet point some shit out (cause I like bullet pointing shit out)

    * I’ve been picking up every issue since the start and I’ve enjoyed them all.

    * BKV’s “voice” shines in each and every character he brings to the table.

    * The world BKV and FS have created is wonderful to read about and I look forward to entering that universe every month.

    * The art work is phenomenal.

So why the fuck is Saga bugging the shit out of me? I’ve been waiting to write a review on this series since it started – waiting for that “bug” to show itself to me. That one “Bug” that is gnawing at me issue after issue. I’m waiting for the lightbulb to go off above my head so I can finally sit down and write up a review and “exorcise” that bug once and for all.

Today it finally came to me. I am ready to write that review now. Ready to unveil the “bug” to my fellow iFanboys.

    Stay tuned…..

  19. It’s hard to review this without giving away spoilers so I’ll just say: another touching issue. With some very blunt but very natural depictions of sex.

  20. This was another great issue but has anyone else noticed they’ve been stuck on that tree/rocketship since issue 6?! It easy to forget because the character moments are so strong but a bit more urgency on the driven plot would be nice.

    • I’ve thought about that, but the story is centered around a family on the run, so I imagine they’re gonna be on some kinda craft or another quite often throughout the series. I’m sure BKV will switch it up soon. Yorick was constantly on the move in Y, but the setting never lingered for more than a few issues.

  21. Every time I think Saga can’t get any better……it does!! Lying Cat rocks, and this issue shows the real bond of “partners” between it & The Will. Izabel is great comic relief, and the backhistory of Alana & Marko, and of Marko & his Father really add to the overall wonderfulness of this issue and the series as a whole so far….Saga is the best series in comics: Period.

  22. First time I haven’t given Saga a five star. This issue just seemed to be missing something.

  23. I cried while reading this. I’m a sucker for any story involving parents getting older, as it really makes me think about my own. That flashback sequence… the blank look on Marko’s face. God damn. Never thought I’d get so emotional and reflective from a picture book. I’ll always cherish this issue.
