  1. Do we know when Man With a Getaway Face proper is coming out.  I wasn’t aware of this prelude issue.

  2. @stuclach: It’s scheduled for realese around New York Comic-Con in October. This was the prelude that was sold at WonderCon this year.

  3. @conor – Thank you, sir.  I’ll have to look for a copy at NYCC.

  4. @Stuclach If I’m not mistaken this is the first chapter of THE OUTFIT. Just so that you’re not looking for the wrong title. :-p

This is so odd! I just picked up the WonderCon Prelude from a used bookstore in town. (At a bit of a mark-up.) It was just there sticking oddly out of a shelf next to the Parker novels. So I have it (with the old IDW logo on top) but I had no idea they were going to put this out for sale to non-Con audiences, let alone the very same week!

I presume they’re doing this because it’s a year ago that The Hunter came out and The Outfit isn’t coming out for another 3 months.

  5. @Prax – Thank you for the info.  I would have been looking for the wrong title.  I don’t actually have time to read any other comics centric sites (or interest, honestly.).

  6. This was great! I am going to get another copy cause the one I have is signed by the man, Darwyn !

  7. BRING IT!

  8. Good, I missed the con, glad to see this is available in stores. Can’t wait for October.

  9. I seem to remember reading that this will be the opening chapter for Cooke’s adaptation of The Outfit, as The Man… obviously sets up some things so he wanted to include it somehow.

  10. Wow!!! This was so awesome.

  11. What he said. This was awesome. And such a great value. $2 for a 24 page oversized book of Darwyn Cooke art? Are you serious? Not to mention a great story.

And for those confused as to what this is. It’s not the first chapter of the upcoming book. It’s a "prelude" to it. In the intro, Cooke talks about picking the 4 Parker books he wanted to do for his adaptations. And talked about the books that missed the cut. "The Man with the Getaway Face" was one of the ones that didn’t make it. But he said that there was something from it that really helped set up the next book, "The Outfit". It sort of bridges "The Hunter" to "The Outfit". It was a chance to add a piece of the left out book, as well as make a great/cheap sales pitch for the books he’s doing.

So if you’re thinking this is going to be included in the upcoming book, that is not the case. You DO NOT want to miss out on this awesome deal. I can’t remember a better use of $2.

  12. I paid $2.00 for this and last week paid $4.00 for Shadowland. I read this three times in a row and enjoyed every moment of it.  The Parker series are some of my favorite books, so I have read most of them.  The big thing in this book is that Parker get plastic surgery on his face.  So he is not recognized by his old pals. This is a theme that runs through the series.  So Cooke had to set it up for the next books.

  13. @j206 Actually, you’re wrong about that buddy. The original WonderCon edition specifically says it will be printed as the first chapter of the Outfit. From the back of my copy "This 24-page vignette acts as a prologue to THE OUTFIT and will appear in the final graphic novel."

  14. @j206 – This was an amazing issue. I would buy it no matter what! I have two copies. Darwynn Cooke is such an amazing talent and a great guy too!

  15. Ahh, gotcha Prax. Didn’t read that in this version. Cool to hear that. As it means it will all be available in hardcover book form. Win-win either way.

  16. Finally sat down to read this! And it was AWESOME! A very cool "tease" for the main book, but with legs enough to stand on its own. October can’t come enough.

  17. pick of the year (so far) for me.  I love the Parker hardcover, but this makes me wish that they were all this size.  Simply amazing.

  18. The art is already amazing, but at this size it’s gorgeous.
