PUNISHER MAX #9

Frank Castle is now Public Enemy #1 in New York City, and nobody’s loving it more than Bullseye, the psychotic assassin determined to bring him down. But what happens when Bullseye goes so far that even the Kingpin, Wilson Fisk, wants to shut him down? And how exactly do you pull the plug on the world’s most tenacious hitman without becoming a target yourself?

  1. Aaron’s ‘new’ take on Bullseye is just making him more insane then he already is. But somehow it has turned into a pretty enjoyable arc.

  2. God I love Punisher Max and god damn I love Jason Aaron even more! His run has been some of the most twisted, messed up work I have ever had the pleasure of reading.

His King Pin arc was marose and the couple that with pure insanity of the Bullseye arc …well, you can’t help but recoil in shock throughout. Yet at the same time, you can’t help but smirk – this is messed up on a Garth Ennis PREACHER level, and I love it.

  3. I love Preacher and I used to enjoy The Boys a whole bunch before it started to suck but I never got past the fourth softcover in Ennis’ MAX run.  Aaron’s run has been tons of fun since the very beginning though.

  4. After being shocked at how average this book has been since it started (I’m a huge fan of both Aaron & Punisher MAX … Ennis run) – I think I finally figured it out – Aaron never read a single issue of Ennis character defining run on Punisher MAX. He must have based his run on Ennis’ old black humour/tongue in cheek Marvel Knights Punisher.

This is all I can think of to explain it. How can an awesome writer like Aaron get the tone of the comic & the main character so completely wrong?

  5. I don’t know about you Wade but I really enjoyed this. In fact this issue was my POTW.

Is it still frustrating we get Bullseye more then Punisher? Yes. But with his take on Bullseye being so damn good I really don’t mind. Him and Fisk have been the highpoints on this arc and when Castle finally rears his head Aaron can write him well. Maybe he is using more of a tone from the Marvel Knights Punisher…..But that disappears when he decides to kill someone in cold blood for no reason and then shows he has ‘CHEMICAL’ weapons at his disposal.

    5/5

  6. The iFanboy troika like to mention Kevin Maguire’s name at the top of the short list of pencilers who nail "face acting," and I think Steve Dillon is a master at that particular lost art as well.

  7. This was awesome. I think Dillon’s best work so far on this title. Frank just shoots that guy in the head!

  8. I went out and picked this up because of the Panel of the Week and it was awesome.

I have found I will enjoy almost anything that Hollingsworth colors.

  9. Sorry TNC, but it was more of the same for me. I’ll be dropping this after the arc is done. Never thought I’d say that about an Aaron/Punisher book!

  10. I have been loving this whole story so far. but, Bullseye wearing the shirt bothers me. and not in the way it should. that’s been done. usually by jigsaw, and it was in one of the most classic Punisher stories ever. ok, rant over.

  11. Yes this is way more Marvel Knights with a little bit of Max mixed in but I don’t care because it’s fantastic utter fun! Sure Ennis’s run was way more serious and actually covered a lot of topics rarely mentioned in comics(it was also amazing) but this is pure craziness at it’s best. Think of them as different series and you are good to go.

    BULLSEYE!
