  1. Not buying this in issue, but excited for this book anyway.

Maybe Bullseye replaces Ronin/Clint in the Ronin costume.

The Ronin costume should be a permanent part of the New Avengers team.

  2. I’m bettin it’s Marvel Boy or maybe Ares back from the dead.

  3. B-b-but I thought Dark Avengers was their #1 ongoing title.

  4. I have to admit this isn’t exactly calling out to me, but I’ll give a whirl anyway. Oh… and I’m sure someone has nitpicked this before, but aren’t all of the people on the cover previous Avengers and not in fact "New?" 😉

  5. DCBS had is for .99 cents, so i’m at least getting the first ish.

  6. I love the origin backup that contradicts continuity by keeping it 40 years ago.

I’ll give this a read in the store most likely.

  7. I’m gonna check it out.  I’m curious about which Dark Avenger will join…  Maybe Marvel Boy, but I thought he was joining another team…Too many Avengers teams now for me to keep them all straight.  If nothing else, I’ll enjoy the Immonen art.

  8. especially after that Dark Avengers annual from December, it’s probably Marvel Boy.  or maybe it’s THE SENTRY! wouldn’t that be fun?

  9. @Prax I think this might be the Things first go round with the Avengers but other than that nothing really new.

  10. Love me some Immonen art so I am definitely on board for the re-start!

  11. @prax: most of them weren’t new when this title originally came out.

  12. The Thing was at least a member of the West Coast Avengers. Briefly.

  13. @UXPUNX @damon It’s a joke gentlemen, settle down.

  14. @prax: I don’t settle down! I take things far too seriously!

  15. @Prax You’re looking at it all wrong!! This is the "New Coke" marketing ploy, with New Avengers obviously being New Coke. They are going to make this series be as shitty as possible, which will drive even more readers to buy the Coca-Cola Classic in this case, the adjectiveless Avengers book!

  16. Unlikely.

New Avengers saved the Avengers title; therefore, it is at the very least Pepsi.

  17. I really hope it is Marvel Boy.

  18. This is a "New" Avengers team so I guess the title works. It has to be Marvel Boy or Ares and I think it would be to soon to bring back Ares.

  19. I’m pulling this, but not nearly as excited as I was for the previous two Avengers titles I tried. We’ll see how this goes.

  20. I really like the oral histories that Bendis is adding to the back.

  21. I’m a bit surprised by some of the general apathy surrounding this title.

New Avengers has easily been in the top five super hero comics for me since it started.

Maybe people are sick of it . . .

  22. Is it wrong that I love it whenever I can type ‘New new new new’ Avengers?

Since Secret Avengers was such a surprise, I’ll probably trade wait for this. (That’s a positive thing since I decided never to try it at all so many months ago) Still, since Bendis was iffy on his THE Avengers book I am a little worried about this.

  23. I’ll give it at least this issue.

As for the Dark Avenger in the title–I don’t know if this counts, but I’m willing to guess it’s going to be Victoria Hand, who’s going to be their liaison to Steve.

  24. @TNC: Yes! 😛

@comicBookchris & @ScorpionMasada: It’s at least the Crystal Pepsi of the Avengers books.

I have no clue who the Dark Avenger will be but if I had to guess, I’d go with Victoria Hand like @DarkKnightJared said. I doubt the Dark Avenger will be Venom, Daken, or Moonstone because the Team already has a Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Ms. Marvel. Also Ares and Sentry are dead and Norman sure has hell won’t join becasue he is in prison so that leaves Marvel Boy, Bulleye (Ronin???), Iron Patriot (someone else in armor), or Victoria Hand.

  25. Jimski’s most recent article made me realize that I buy way too many books in issues. The Avengers aren’t going anywhere, I can afford to trade wait it. Plus, it’ll be much better off on my bookshelf than in long box purgatory. Loved the Old Avengers, though, so I’m assuming I’ll like this too.

  26. Harry Osborn in the Iron Patriot armor would be a riot.

  27. Eh I will pick this up just see how it goes. Really got tired reading the New Avengers once the Secret Invasion began.

  28. Will get a couple of issues of this. I will not be purchasing 4+ Avengers comics, so something will get cut quick. Since Bendis reads so much better in trade he will really need to draw me in rapidly.

  29. Why not just pick two out of the four books to buy in trade and save yourself 9-18 dollars and have trades of stories that you have never read at all?

  30. That is sort of what I am planning. I guess you are saying don’t even read the first issue or 2 and go straight to trade on the assumption that is the better route. Maybe a better plan, but I feel the need to sample. Plus, if they are horrible I save even more money. And first issues through DCBS always ahve a huge mark off deal.

  31. Cool. I’ve done what you have done. I only sample the first issue though.

I trust in Bendis so much that for me buying this hardcover is not a risk at all.

  32. @OttoBott: Actually that would be awesome.

  33. @JesTr – I’m all for it, if only for the awkward "I’m Spiderman" conversation betwix Harry and Peter, or (IMO, even better) the lack thereof.

The entire team hiding a secret identity from "The New Guy" would be a weird dynamic I’d totally read.

  34. Another mediocre over priced superhero comic

  35. this was terrible. the whole spidey and wolverine doubling up on teams, after cap america says u cant have thor or iron man….one would assume that doubling up was not possible. The sorcerer supreme stuff that made everyone drop new avengers a while back and more my baby my baby bull from lukes wife will keep me from touching this with a ten foot poll.

  36. This issue interested me enough to pick up the next one, we’ll see how good it is.

  37. Sigh….I’m tired of characters pulling double (in Wolverine’s case triple) duty. You’re telling me there’s not enough heroes out there to fill your team with people that aren’t on another team? Come on! There are a ton of great characters out there for Bendis to use. I would rather someone like Machine Man on the team rather than see Wolverine in every Avengers book.

  38. @AquaPimp82 I feel the same way but if it works well then more power to him. I’d rather have Jewel in her costume in this issue rather than just Ben Grimm as the only new official member

  39. Wait isn’t Wolverine trapped in the future with the X-force trying to save the muntant race? Wait isn’t Wolverine fighting a horde of deadly Deathloks from the future that have wiped out the superhumans? Wait isn’t Wolverine on the main Avengers team getting ready to go into the future and help Kang stop the evil offspring of the Avengers…im confused

  40. Yes Dr. he is, and he is also getting ready to go to hell and fight Frankencastle. He will also be fighting vampires and will be paired with Betty White on the next "Dancing with the Stars".

  41. I enjoyed this well enough, but I need another issue or two to prove this is worth the investment. I would just buy it for Luke Cage but I have Thunderbolts for that. 😉 Nothing wrong with it, the art is great (except for a random panel where Hawkeye is colored gold for no reason.) And I wish we could get a team that was a little more different than what we had before. 4/5

  42. Was I the only one that noticed both Hawkeye and Ronin hanging out at the party in Avengers Tower? It mostly just showed Ronin, but the page after Luke "bought" the mansion you can see Hawkeye standing next to Thor. Quite odd. That’s more confusing then Wolverine being in different teams. (Get over it already)

Anyways, a solid issue. Loved the art, but not enough to keep reading. My unhealthy love of Iron Fist is not enough to keep me around for the title in monthly issues. Maybe I’ll get the trades if I hear good things.

  43. I liked the Wolverine bit. I don’t however dig where I think this story is going. So Brother Voodoo’s series didn’t sell well, so he’s going to lose his Supreme status. Lame. He should be way more badass. Might get the trade if I hear the story isn’t what I think it is, mostly because the art is gorgeous. Immonen+Martin= Awesomesauce.

  44. What drake said. It’s aight, but I can wait for the trade.

  45. I love the art in this one. I also like how it’s an Avengers book, but it’s really a Luke Cage book. Spider-man’s in it, but he barely says anything in this issue. That’s cool. And I don’t mind SM and Wolverine in this book. They were in the old New Avengers so it makes sense they’re in the new…New Avengers…

  46. @Prax: I agree. If they were just going witht the same team they wouldn’t have to renumber.  Isn’t Thunderbolts supposed to cross with this at some point. I’d love to see how Luke Cage juggles the two teams. Maybe he can take tips from Wolverine. Speaking of which he had the funniest line in the issue, "Multitasking is my mutant power".

@drake: I didn’t notice that. I’ll have to go back and check it out. Was Darkwing Duck there as well?

  47. @JesTr-If Darkwing Duck was in this, I would have bought 25 copies and had them all CGC graded.

  48. Everyone’s saying it’s Marvel Boy, but I really hope they fix the new weird costume of his. They changed his costume just as they had really established it. The mini-series, illuminati, dark avengers, then BAM…new costume. I wonder how long before there’s a story that bendis says was years in the making for marvel boy.

  49. "I do love my family… Susie, Reed, that other guy…"

That sealed it for my POW.

  50. Good to see this was the biggest community POW.

  51. Definitely POW!!!!!

  52. Loved this book.  That is all.

  53. Was I the only one with a Fallen Sun flashback in the text piece where Banner talked about how the Sentry and Rick Jones were the only people who could keep him calm?  Or maybe it’s already been established and I just had no idea so my mind skipped to a familiar reference point.

Book was fun.  I wasn’t pulled in enough to stick around (mostly a cost thing), but it was my favorite of the three main Avengers books.

  54. Of the two Bendis Avengers, I liked this one. Immonem’s art is really crisp and fits the Avengers team really well. I love JRJR, but for whatever reason he is not working (yet) over in the adjective-less title. The other reason this one was better is Luke Cage. Bendis and Cage is like peanut butter and jelly. So good. Luke is now one of my top Marvel characters, which is hard to believe looking back at those tiara days. I am a little nervous about jumping back into the Strange/Voodoo pool, which was one of the weaker storylines in recent years, but I thought it worked really well this issue. I’m giving it one more issue each, but if the trend hold si Know which I am switching to trade on…
