Man, this was a great issue and a fine addition to a great week in comics for me.  With any #1 issue for a team, it’s almost certain that there’s going to be the “getting the band together” theme in the issue.  While those types of issues can often be fun, they tend to be light on the action and heavy on the dialogue.  I have to give Bendis credit as he weaved an elegant tale that balanced the team creation moments with some serious action.  He mentioned on The Bendis Tapes that some serious mystical stuff was going to go down, and this first issue brought it.  Despite the mystical battles, the character moments in this issue were fantastic, and featured some pretty funny moments.  I won’t spoil them for you, but the scene between Tony and Luke was pretty awesome.  Of all the Avengers titles, I have to give this one the nod as the strongest of the series.  Immomen’s art is amazing, and Bendis seems to have more fun with these characters, which makes the book a joy to read.  This is one Avengers title you should definitely be checking out.
