  1. I just re-read "Cry For Justice" and loved it. James Robinson’s comments at the end of the issues were amazing.

  2. Picking this up solely for JT Krul and his Green Arrow run/Arsenal mini.  Haven’t been impressed with what I’ve read of Robinson on JLA so far.

And as far as I can tell this book has at least 5 covers. That’s not ridiculous at all.

  3. Really disappointed to find out what the end to Cry for Justice was. So Unnecessary. Picking this up because I love Green Arrow.

  4. @Amircat there diffrent issues

  5. The killing of Prometheus had to happen. It would have been irresponsible if someone had not killed him.

He did some majorily evil shit.

I’m going to buy this (though I wasn’t planning on it) cuz I liked Cry For Justice.

  6. @Amir: Only one of those is a variant cover. The rest are tie-in issues related to the storyline.

  7. Oh ok cool thanks, my bad.

  8. You know with the "Cry For Justice" arc and Robinson’s notes about Prometheus made me like him.  Do you guys think he will be back in some form or could that have been a decoy?

  9. http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/files/2010/01/jl-rf_covers1-4_colorartre1.jpg

That’s the covers when divided into quarters, and the variant is the first one AmirCat posted.  Personally, I think I’d go with one of the first two.

  10. Did DC pull another fast one on us with this title? The solicit says that James Robinson is the co-writer of this issue, but his name doesn’t appear on the updated cover. I’ve got nothing against J. T. Krul, but when the solicits don’t match the actual issue, especially on something as basic as the writer, that just strikes me as poor form.

  11. @JeffR: It’s quite common.  A lot can happen in the three months between the time of solicitation and when the actual issue comes out.

  12. Avatar photo Jeff Reid (@JeffRReid) says:

@Conor: It’s probably just more obvious to me now that I’m ordering through DCBS, but I didn’t particularly like it when it happened multiple times on BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM, which I was buying in the store. But, I suppose I’m just going to have to live with it.

  13. Jeff – it may not be uncommon, as Conor notes, but it is one of those "signs" that I’ve come to recognize as worrisome. Not for this comic in this particular instance, but… it may be a result of some shifts during this whole series of events that led to this point. It’s been suggested in places that Robinson’s Cry for Justice mini-series shifted after it was approved. It was a series, then it was a mini-series, then certain characters weren’t to be in it, then Robinson was put on JLA proper… when plans shift after they’re in motion, it tends to mean (in my experience) that there’s something shifting behind the scenes.

In this case, I’d speculate that the Green Arrow/Arsenal plans have been changing over time, and I suspect that it just made sense at a certain point for Krul to take on this project. He’s also writing the Arsenal stuff AND the GA book, so at least this whole thread has a consistent writer from here on out.

But, hey, that’s just me. I liked Krul’s last issue of GA, so I’m curious to see if he can salvage a good story out of what I personally thought was a train wreck of an ending to Cry for Justice. Despite my reservations, I may actually pick this one up to see what Krul can do with the plot he’s been handed.

  14. Will James Robinson continue doing JLA? I hope so.

  15. Ok, just saw Robinson’s twitter and he will still write JLA … phew. Good.

  16. @amircat I really like Robinson as a writer, but I can’t stand Bagley.  I’ll never collect another comic with his art:(

  17. Hmmm, apparently those four covers were the variant… works out, since it was uglier than an Adi Granov cover.

  18. I really did not like this issue.  I picked this up after absolutely loving the Green Arrow Blackest Night issue and this seemed like a right hand turn into a story that I knew nothing about.  I understood what was going on enough, but it just did not flow properly and read well for me.  This was my only pick up this week and I really am going to pass on giving it my pick of the week.  Has this ever happened to anyone else?

  19. If I have two books or one, I don’t bother with a pick of the week.

Have I ever not liked the flow of a story and felt I was dropped into the middle of a story? Yup.

Not sure which your question referred to so I answered both.

  20. … whew… yeah, okay. That was pretty bad. Just awkward as hell. Anyone interested in a really GOOD take on GA as hunter, I encourage you to check out Mike Grell’s Longbow Hunters from the 80’s (if it’s even in print). That’s some good stuff.

  21. Maybe it’s that I didn’t read Cry for Justice, but I expect so much more from JT Krul.  This was embarassing.

  22. it seems that DC doesnt have a clue about what to do with the league at all.  i feel that even with with the relaunch under meltzer they’ve been just kind of going with the flow with no real sense of direction at all.  kinda sad really considering the wealth of characters that have been in and out of the book in the last four or so years.  my guess?  DC’s waiting for geoff johns to drop green lantern or somesuch to take over justice league.

  23. Glad I read through this before hitting up the shop.

I’m not going to buy this.

  24. I’m assuming it’s because I haven’t read much JLA stuff, but I really liked Cry for Justice and especially this book.  Maybe I’m missing something, or there are top-notch stories that I haven’t read yet.

  25. @scorpionmasada: It was more toward the first question about the lack of comics and the pick of the week.

@daccampo: How does it compare to the new runs of Kevin Smith and Brad Meltzer?  I am reading those in trade right now and really enjoying them.

  26.  i didnt think it was that bad…..

  27. Was so excited to read this, because I liked the end of "Cry For Justice".  However, it was just kinda ok.  Felt like somethings were a little off with the characters.  However, I am going to the read the tie-in books and hope for the best for the overall story.  Maybe, the tie-ins will tell an overall great GA story.

  28. I thought I was up to speed on Ollie, having read the last eight issues of Green Arrow/Black Canary, and Black Lantern Green Arrow… But somewhere in there I missed Star City getting blown up, since I didn’t read Cry for Justice.

Could someone explain the chronology of Cry for Justice relative to GA/BC, and Blackest Night?

I hope there will be some continuity from Green Arrow #29 (with Lt. Lucas Hilton’s story, and an intact city), and #31.

  29. I didn’t mind this issue, as Krul is doing his best to follow the sludgey Cry For Justice story, though I hated how Barry was painted as an obnoxious judgemental dick.

  30. @comicBOOKchris – yeah I didn’t like Barry’s characterization.

I was dissapointed in the story and where it’s headed. Yet another hero who needs to be redeemed. I guess this is the era of heroes messing up and having to redeem themselves.

  31. All this did was get me real excited for Krul & Nieves run on Green Arrow.

  32. I thought Cry for Justice finished really strongly.  This was ok, but sort of unecessary.  It’s simply there because (I think) CFJ didn’t sell well.

  33. @forestjwp – I personally like Grell’s run the best. I really enjoyed Meltzer’s run, and thought Smith’s run was decent (but it was saddled with Smith being forced to resurrect Ollie, so that hurt it a little in my mind). Grell’s run was a serious, older Ollie. Not sure how it plays today, but at the time it was one of the vanguard of "mature readers" comics, and it was really trying hard to downplay the costume and the super-heroics and make Ollie a tru urban hunter. These days we have a lot more of that, so it may not seem as cool as it did at the time.

With regards to this issue: I don’t dislike Krul because of this. I really feel like this is "Corporate Comics." It seems clear that this edict came down to shake up the GA universe and give them a new direction, and I think Robinson was saddled with it first, and then Krul, as the newbie, was asked to run with this ball. My HOPE is that once we get past this really clunky plot and hand-off, Krul can work to make the GA title his own and we can get some decent stories. But on its own, this was reallllllly awkward and clunky. Just way too forced for my taste.

  34. @AmirCat

Not just any character that needs redeemed, but a character named Green _____, who needs redeemed because he kinda snapped after his city got destroyed

  35. I was just wondering and this may sound like a stupid quiestions so please forgive me if it is… but will they be releasing the rise and fall as a trade?
