  1. MITCH! You’re back! Oh, god bless us, every one!

  2. I could not take much more Whilce. Portacio starts out solid, if not amazing, but then deteriorates. I don’t think he gets along well with monthly schedules. I will say that the Thor universe with its legend feel handles his sketchy layouts better than other recent comics I have read him in. But enough about the previous artist. I am pumped for Mitch.

  3. And Grifter still gets more pulls than this…
I’m hoping that this issue will be a Christmas Miracle and get more folks to realize this awesome title that’s been brewing in a hidden corner of the marvel U!
Fear Itself backlash and New 52 praise and excitement really kept a lot of folks from noticing this; I think this is the perfect time for a one and done issue. Can’t wait! (and an awesome week of books in general, ay?)

    • I just added JiM, but I pick up Grifter as well, so my add doesn’t help in that respect. Sorry…

    • I just plucked that book out of the blue cause it was one book above JIM (Im actually planning on checking out the new Grifter series! I’m guilty of badmouthing something I haunt even read, and I hate it when folks do that! My bad there…)

  4. Volstagg! Christmas! I hopped on board with a JIM marathon and this a prime example of why I love comics and had a sudden urge to get a bird named Ikol… START READING THIS SERIES!!!!!

  5. Still the best comic at Marvel. Buy it, people.

  6. Thank christ, no more Whilce Portacio. He really brought the book down. But hey, it was still great.

If you’re not buying this book, you’re making a grievous mistake. This is some damn good comic booking.

    • “He really brought the book down. But hey, it was still great.”

Okay, so he brought it down to great? Or, it was magnificent and now it’s only great? And if it’s great, why is it that Whilce Portacio is bad, then? Kinda lost with this comment.

  7. This book really needs a stable artist that can stay consistent. Aside from some art failings, this book has been fucking incredible. I love you, JIM.

  8. Alright, JIM, you got me.

  9. Picking this up because of the Don’t Miss this week. I love special issues like holiday issues. 🙂

  10. We got the other great artist that start’s with a ‘B’ this time around!

The preview for this looks really good, Breitweiser’s art is going to be perfect for this ‘holiday’ issue.

  11. Alright lets try this series out

  12. Happy to see that this is now day and date digital.–it’s a Christmas miracle!! Still, picked up a physical copy because these are issues I enjoy sharing with others.

  13. I would not be suprised if a few panels in this book doesn’t show up in the pannel fo the week segment.

  14. I picked this up purely because of the Don’t Miss podcast. I’m enjoying Gillen’s work on Uncanny X-Men, but I think the “fantasy” label kept this book off my radar.

I wasn’t totally blown away, but this was a lot of fun. My POTW and I’ll be back for the next issue.

  15. This was the cutest thing I’ve read in a while, and certainly one of the best ‘holiday special’ comics I’ve read, if it can be considered that. I love the new addition to Loki’s growing band of companions. My interest in this book is back now that Fear Itself is finally over and we can move on to better things.

  16. Dear Volstagg,

I have been ever so good this year! Please bring me an adorable hellbeast, an avian reflaction of my own dark nature, and zero (0) yuletide fists.

    Love,
    CaseyJustice

PS: Thanks so much for this heartwarming early present! It has me smiling hours after reading.

  17. I’d like to nominate Thori as the best new character of 2011.

  18. Just under the wire, but they may have been my favorite issue of the year.

  19. This has now been my POTW 7 times this year… That seems excessive, but I do love it so!

  20. great issue. i noticed a lot of cheers for the artist and got really excited, but then i wasnt too impressed….until i got to the world tree 2 page scene and my whole perspective changed. just beautiful, awe inspiring imagery. question: who was the face on the side of the mountain by the world tree. there is a face made out in the snowy rocks. this is the only thor related book that i read and i know much more about greek mythology than i do norse. did anyone notice that? or am i just crazy for not knowing the mythos?
