  1. Gillen writes a great Volstagg; can’t wait to see how twisted this version of the event is going to be to favor Volstagg.

  2. awesome cover

  3. For this issue I am going to buy a big spoon and then eat the comic, Grodd-style. It is that good.

  4. The only thing good about fear itself has been this book.
I’ve really enjoyed Lookis part in the story.

  5. They should. Really just retitle the first trade of this Fear Itself and collect it in the actual Fear Itself’s place. What an absurdly awesome first arc. Can’t wait to see how good this can be when Gillen ISN’T tied to an event!

  6. Didn’t the last issue just come out last week?

  7. This is still tied for 1st with Uncanny X-force and Captain America and Bucky. *sigh* Can’t decide!

  8. I can’t believe the Mighty Thor has more pulls than this!! Is there no justice in the world?
Coipel is the man, and he really is killing it on that title. But JIM is where it’s at.

  9. Dammit. As my pull list swells I keep trying to cut down on books, but I JUST CAN’T QUIT YOU, JIM!

  10. Even though Gillen had to reference Fear Itself one more time, he really wrote himself a gem here.

A Volstagg issue is just what we needed to make us feel lighthearted about the whole event. I would love to see more stories on how Volstagg apparently solved everything for Asgard. Also, great art by Elson who improved greatly over the Mephisto issue. Now with the event out of the way, let’s see where this title takes us!

    4.5/5

  11. What a fun interlude. Volstagg is an amazing character in the right hands.

Well done, Mr. Gillen. You brought a wee tear to my eye.

  12. Has JIM always been this good? I mean the issues before #622.

  13. i love gillen’s work, but i cant stop missing braithewaite. each issue without him is bitter sweet. the writing ensures that the title will survive his absence, but this is always in the back of my mind.

  14. Gillen is channeling some kind of modern Simonson writing this series… amazing work!
