  1. It is very much going to be a Lemire week. (3 books). We already know he has the cover the week nailed right here. I can sense a tidal wave of praise heading his way tomorrow.

  2. Really want to get this just for Lemire’s art.  I’ve always wanted to pick Hex up, but never got around to it.  Maybe this will whet my appetite for All Star Western…

  3. Whoah!

  4. Double dipping on some Hex for this issue!

(Although since the series is ending for All Star Western I guess I’ll be able to collect the entire run soon enough)

  5. This is going to be so great.

  6. It would be fantastic if this entire run got the hc omnibus treatment when it ends.

  7. This has been one of my most favorite books every month. Adding Jeff Lemire is like frosting on a delicious cake!

  8. WOOHOO! This has been my laptop background since the image was released. Very much looking forward it! I’ve never asked him before, but I will definitely ask Jimmy to sign this for me if I see him in the shop.

  9. I am so excited to see this. It will be in the running for my Pick of the week. I’m just glad Lemire had time to do this.

  10. Amazing!

  11. Fucking amazing would be a more accurate description.

I think this is a clear frontrunner so far thus year for “single issue of the year”

  12. * “best single issue of the year”

  13. A fantastic issue all the way around, the first of three ‘5 star’ books for me. Lemire was perfect for this because it is a ‘Essex County’ story to an extent. Plus, even though I only read the trades, this was easy to get into and it does refer to other issues I did read in the trades. Overall a perfect reason why Jonah Hex is one of the best series DC has to offer.

    5/5

  14. Picked up on a whim because of the cover and the fact I’ve been meaning to get into Hex for a while.

Easily POTW on art alone, but the story was excellent too. And that’s from someone who’s never read any Jonah Hex before.

Now to buy all the trades…

  15. Only buy Hex when there is an excellent guest artist like when Darwyn did issue fifty so naturally I bought this and it easily was my POTW. I’m an idiot for not buying every issue of Hex. I’ll try to grab a bunch of the trades at half off during the baltimore or new york cons coming up.

  16. I’m not a huge fan of Lemire’s art, but there’s no question this was my POTW. Woodson Hex has been an emotional antagonist for Jonah since we first met him and the showdown between the two was fantastic writing.

  17. Funny thing:

    Antlers on the 3rd page.

  18. The beauty of this story is in the fact that all the violence was off panel and from that particular moment on, we got to a major point in Jonah’s life. You cannot see this any of this coming after the first 3 pages of the issue. What a great week of comics!
The last 2 pages tell so much and, yet, there are no words. Why is it when Jonah takes a piss, it is the coolest badass thing ever? Just is, I guess.

  19. The ending reminded me of that old Irish joke about the dying man requesting that his friend pour some of his favorite whiskey on his grave once he’s gone, and the friend says, “Of course, of course. Do you mind if I run it through my kidneys first?”

    This issue was a gift.

  20. My first Hex book, POTW.

  21. Seems a lot of folk did the same as me and pick this up for the first time this week. Shows what an awesome cover can do to nudge peoplke towards a book.
