  1. As fun as it was seeing Hercules and the other gods give a much deserve spanking to the Dark Avengers….let’s get the REAL story back on track.

  2. @TNC Agreed!

Looking forward to this. Hmmm… what’s that? Fred Van Lente isn’t listed as a writer on this issue. Curious.

  3. I thought last issue didn’t really derail the story. It added some depth to the whole conflict with the Olympus group. I’m just excited for more Cho and Herc banter. They really need to just make this book about them hanging out. Most of the time the events going on are overshadowed by how great their dialogue is with eachother. I do miss Kirby, though. We can’t even call him Amadeus Cho with Pup in Tow anymore. Damn.

  4. I think I saw they are going to be doing oversized hardcover editions of this series.

I didn’t jump on this series until issue 126, so I’ll definitely pick up a couple of those hardcovers if I’m not wrong about them coming out.

  5. So when Hulk resumes its numbering, will Herc continue?

    Just curious.

  6. @prax – I’ve other places list Van Lente AND Pak as the writers.

I’m only picking this up because Ryan Stegman will be signing at my LCS, but I hear good things so who knows?

  7. @Noto There was a lengthy Greg Pak intreview explaining the rather confusing state of Hulk. Essentially there will be Incredible Hulk AND Incredibly Hercules side by side for some time. As well Hulk and Skaar, son of Hulk will be coming out too, constituting a continuity heavy 3-book system.

@DarthDuck Ahh okay. I figured it was something like that.

  8. @Prax – Thanks. I was looking at possibly jumping on Hulk at #600. I liked the character, but haven’t read him in years (and I mean years. Think Peter David) #600 seems to be a good jumping on point. but who knows I guess.

Really what’s holding me back is the wallet.

  9. I’m confused on why the numbering for this isnt going to change. This took over Incredible Hulk; but yet when that comes back for issue #600, this is still gonna have the original numbering. I mean if Marvel is okay with going from Thor #11 to Thor #600….why cant they do the opposite and do Herc #129 to Herc #16? Cause that’s how long this has been called Incredible Herc, for 16 issues.

Dont tell me that it’ll confuse the readers though if they went backwards. Cause your confusing the readers by jumping hundreds of issues forward to get to 600.

  10. @TNC – I guess the real question is when Hulk changes to #600, are they counting the sixteen issues that Herk was in Incredible in with the calculation to make that jump?

I’m sure someone has the answer, but I’ve not been following.

  11. @Noto, TNC What’s weird here is that we have that took over the counting for a rebooted series. Generally in magazines and comics, a title change is not unheard of where the old numbering/volume system is kept. (Say… Incredible Hulk, becoming Herc.) So yeah, it presents a problem. I really don’t know what Marvel’s thought process is here. In all honesty, I never bought Marvel’s logic for renumbering. Essentially it’s to compete with DC’s 4 big books being over 600 each. And really, no Marvel book has *actually* been around that long save Uncanny! Hear me marvel! You made you bed now sleep in it!

  12. All this is making my head herc.

  13. Let’s change topics cause my head hurts too….

Hey the most comments ever for this title I think. More importantly I love the idea of this issue if the summary is correct. Makes perfect sense for Hades to be pissed off at the superheroes. He’s not doing a good enough job if they keep dying and reviving.

  14. @ PraxJarvin- "And really, no Marvel book has *actually* been around that long save Uncanny!"

God, you’re right.  I was thinking FF would count, but that whole reboot after Heroes Reborn screwed that up.  Avengers got hosed, too.  Same with Amazing Spider-Man.  Uncanny really is the only book that never got renumbered (though would you discount the "Age of Apocalypse" stint when it changed its name to "Astounding"?  Also, is that counting in when it was just "X-Men" from time to time?).  Stupid Marvel.  Stupid 90’s.

Let them renumber Hercules any way they want.  Really, except to know where to get started in a book, what’s it really matter anyway?  The stories are still good.

  15. Great issue, made it my POTW.

Just a perfect idea to make an Atlantic City casino the ‘resting’ place for Marvel superheroes. If Hank Pym knew of this he could visit Janet at any time.

  16. @BC1 Well, Uncanny technically didn’t exist during AOA and so it was never renumbered or such, so the example isn’t quite right, in that the book wasn’t replaced "permanently" like the FF or Avengers or Spidey were. Essentially, though Uncanny X-Men is the only Marvel title to reach 500 without a number reboot somewhere along the line.

@TNC I have to say the idea that Hades is a Casino in Atlantic City seems perfectly right. As well, the sheer amount of cameos was pretty good. My favorite being U-Go-Girl (technically, the most active dead Character at Marvel!) Obidah Stane. And does anyone think the fact that Jack of Hearts "won" is a hint for the future?

Great issue of a great series. I wasn’t a big fan of the art, but it wasn’t terrible. And a nice, cleansing mouth wash after the Dark Reign Unncessa-over. 5/5 for me.

  17. Off-topic for the book, but on topic for the discussion-Does anybody know what the sales numbers are for ‘anniversary’ books like #600?  Does it really push the figures up, and if so by how much?  I know that there is essentially no cost to the publisher, but I always wondered if it is worth the hassel.

  18. Ryan Stegman does a great job on the artwork, hopefully this will be the start of a great run on the book. Herc continues to be both fun and action-packed; a rare combination in mainstream comics these days.

  19. @MisterJ I don’t know for certain, but I know that was the business model employed by DC, Image and Marvel back in the day. I think it’s generally assumed that the Anniversay Issues 1, 12*, 25, 50, 100, 125, etc will be *clear* jumping on points and that’s normally the case (but not always, I’m looking at you Uncanny #300 with your dependence on continuity!)

*12 isn’t normally considered an anniversary book, but I’ve noticed a push in recent years to have the first year of a book tell a "complete" story for trade purposes.

  20. I was hoping everyone would be talking about this issue’s take on the afterlife.

  21. @DVD: I thought it was hilarious. Not deep like Gaiman’s take on afterlife but it makes total sense if the Marvel U is following a Greek Mythology. Just remember to anyone who has seen their favorite character died:

They’re in Atlantic City playing some blackjack as we speak.

  22. @TNC Everyone but Steve, who’s just hanging around his grave in his snuggie.
