  1. It sucks that this got cut from 10 issues to 9. The overarching story is average, but I am really enjoying the backstories and development of these forgotten Morrison characters. I’m hoping the expanded length will make up for the lack of separate issues for Mother of Champions and Socialist Red Guardsman.

  2. So it’s called the ‘Great Ten’ but it had to be cut to 9 issues?…..

Okay I don’t read this series but I am confused. If it’s a mini-series (or a semi-sequel from a series over 4 years ago), why does it matter how many issues it is?

  3. It matters because 1) The book is called the Great Ten, not the Great Nine, and 2) The whole structure of the book has been to focus on one member per issue.

TNC, this has been a great book (no pun intended), I hope you get a chance to read it in trade.

KevinAB, you can’t judge the overarching story until the final issue is released.  Me, I’m intrigued by how the Red Guardsman somehow set this whole false gods thing in motion.

BEDARD AND MCDANIEL – THANK YOU FROM ONE FAN WHO TOTALLY "GOT" WHAT YOU GUYS WERE DOING.  THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I’VE READ EVER!  Can’t wait to see how it ends.

  4. @Urthona – I guess you can’t count Seven Deadly Brothers as more than one.  Then they’d be the Great Sixteen, but yeah, the story called for a member origin an issue.  Great Nine it is.  Hope this doesn’t mess Tony up to much.

  5. I just meant that why would DC care if it goes a full ten issues? Did they really need to save money or whatever by cutting it an issue? Seems it will lose some of it’s magic because it didn’t go ten issues.

  6. I’ve been loving this book, and hope that shoehorning doesn’t hurt thew series any.  I love these characters, and this is one of the coolest "team building" stories I’ve ever read.  It reminds me of Morrison’s Seven Soldiers experiment (even though Morrison created the characters, I doubt that these are the back stories that he created…they’re not weird enough).

Hopefully, DC writers will continue find ways to use these dudes..Great Ten need to stay around.

  7. The DC Implosion got to this mini-series.   Sad, because this book has been pretty neat.  I don’t really like McDaniel’s art, but it’s worked fine for me in this book.  I think a team of Chinese super-heroes is just too far out there for most people.  But there is a lot to like in these characters.

  8. It’s too bad DC couldn’t find a market for Chinese heros.  If only there were some country with a large Chinese population.

      ….LIKE CHINA!
