  1. I don’t think it’s possible to top Dear Billy, but if anyone can do it, it’s Ennis.

  2. Night Witches wasn’t really my style, but Dear Billy was stunning, so I’m willing to give this a try. The description and cover are both nice selling points as well.

  3. YES!! both of the previous ones were amazing I cant wait

  4. right on. right on.

  5. Read the first arc, scipped the second, small week for me…. mmmm maybe I’ll pick this one back up. Sorta f’d up crazy disturbing war s#!t can be good on a Wed. night sometimes.

  6. Starting with this one, will have to pick up the first two in trade.

  7. @ ^ 2 guys above ^ — Only get them trades if you are into mindblowingly awesome comics.

And, no, that is not a gun in my pocket — I am excited for this issue.

  8. Was it just me or was this comic near impossible to follow?  I picked it up after hearing the hype from Night Witches and Dear Billy, but it feels like this is going to be the black sheep of the bunch.

  9. @Slockhart It was a little spread out in terms of page count for each group but other than that I thought the individual scenes were easy enough to follow.  There is definitly a more ensemble cast for this series but I will trust that it will become more clear next issue as he kills people off.

  10. Yeah, this was a bit hard to follow, but it’ll make sense.

  11. I love the fact that we’ve had three different types of stories. Ennis obviously loves his war comics and the first two minis have been out of the park for me.

The confusion in this first issue, I think, is intentional. No one in the story, from the planners to the grunts, has much idea of what is going on either. I got a kind of jittery, page-flipping thing in the middle of it and I feel it conveyed the ‘fog of war’ convincingly.

As an aside, I picked the Leach cover (I wish I could say out of a love of Miracleman, but I didn’t notice until I got home) and I liked it better. Not that I don’t like Cassaday, I popped wood seeing new "I Am Legion."

  12. Sorry, I meant to say ‘types of story.’  I read Jimski’s column. (Way off topic, but I just saw a ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ reference in "Reno 911" of all places, and not an obvious one.)

  13. This book makes me fell like a 7 year old. I have to read slowly and sound out all the crazy british speak. Still great!

  14. Better than The Night Witches, not as good as Dear Billy. 4 stars all the way.

  15. Tanks = cool

  16. Great stuff.

  17. First Battlefields issue I’m not in love with. Unlike in his mainstream work, I will absolutely give Ennis the benefit of the doubt here.
