Sweet Churchill

If you haven’t read any of Garth Ennis’s Battlefields series
yet, now is as good a time to jump on as any.  With the wrap of Dear
Billy
and the previous The Night Witches, I was thoroughly impressed
with Ennis’s story telling, weaving multiple characters and glimpses of life
into the same thread set in the War that gripped the whole World.  I
wasn’t sure if these would begin to become formulaic or predictable, but upon
issue one of The Tankies, the only thing that is apparent to be the same
is commanding central characters.  Battlefields has thrived due to
characters which are painted so strongly both with words and art.  Carlos
Ezquerra is doing a bang-up job with the power of his images of these
mechanical behemoths, while revealing the faces of the unique souls that
piloted them.
