  1. I don’t think the solicit helps sell this book. I have read articles on CBR and here that make me want to read this book but when I read ” These two high school students are worlds apart – and now they’re drawn into a conspiracy of super-science…..”

I can’t help but think, that doesn’t sound good, that sounds like cliche bad executives trying to up-sell garbage.

I hope I got my point across. I am buying the book and expect good things. I just don’t think they are advertising this properly.

  2. I just read the preview to it. I like FireStorm but no.

  3. firestorm is my all time favorite comic book character, and while i dont agree with this reboot of him at all…any firestorm book will do, and if…(and its a big if) it doesnt get cancelled right away ill be happy.

  4. I’m hopefull for this. Wasn’t crazy about the preveiw art but Fierstorm is one of the dc characters that i have always thought was pretty badass even though i’ve never read much with him in it.

  5. Nothing about this looks promising. Sorry, Gail.

The original concept was pretty darn fun. I think it could have been updated slightly, but all of these new elements just seem unnecessary. Pass.

  6. Pulling this because of Yildiray Cinar, but I’m not expecting big things. Hopefully it wows me.

  7. Never liked the Jason character but thought it was better with Ronnie and Professor Stein. Have a bad feeling about this book, but I’m willing to give it a chance.

  8. I love this cover. Curious to see if Simone rallies after the critical lashing she took (from some) because of Batgirl.

  9. I’m intrigued by the fact that they can each be separate Firestorms or Join together as the cover suggest. I’ve liked Firestorm since the Superfriends back in the day and thought he was kind of like GL without the ring. I hope this turns out to be a good book. At least this book has some talent behind it.

  10. ok just read it….worth the wait….completely new take on the character of firestorm but looks like it stays true to Jason and Ronnie, i liked it as a long time fan. and it seems like an easy jumping on point!

  11. Didn’t care for it all. The whole race issue that Jason brought up was utterly ridiculous. I’ll stick with it for an issue or two,but not liking the new take on Firestorm.

  12. I was pleasantly surprised by this.

  13. I really do not like Gail Simone’s writing. I thought this issue was far too wordy. Usually I’m ok with getting a lot of content but this just felt slow and pointless. The art was the best part of this and even that was just alright.

  14. Read this last night and for me Firestorm has alway been a great character up until Ronnie and the Professor were taken out of the equation. They started messing him up years ago with the whole elemental crap and then never returned him to the great character he was!! Then before the reboot the whole Jason thing was just a waste of time and just well… not very good!
Now this, I give it a 2 only because Ronnie’s in it and I love firestorm and I am hoping he gets back to the original feel when he was created with little twists on the character maybe not a whole lot. The art was ok and the story was sorry to say not very good. Gail usually has some new and fresh ideas however; this was an old an tired back story of racism. To me maybe I am little blind when it comes to this but, in this day and age racism and minorities should not excist. We are all human and struggling day to day to live our lives and this and all hate for one thing or another should be left for dead and not dwelled on. I know these issues still exsist and maybe I am ignorant for trying to ignore this however; I just don’t think bringing this up needs to be done anymore.
Sorry went off into a rant and I am sure who ever was reading this has stopped by now.
This issue gets a 2 out of 5 and I will give it two more issues and hope that this thing comes around for good ol’ Firestorm the Nuculear MAN!

    Just sayin’,

    K

  15. i’m concerned…..did gail simone have a stroke? maybe we should send her a fruit basket and check on her.

  16. Terrible. Pains me to say it.

  17. I second Face as much as I can, seeing as I couldnt finish the entire issue yet. I tried, was bummed because I wanted it to be awesome, and set it down. When I’m in a particularly masochistic mood, I’ll try to finish it.

  18. The racial stuff ruined this for me. Jason brings the argument out of nowhere. All it did was make me dislike him a lot. The rest of the issue their butting heads felt so forced. You have two characters who are complete opposites. It shouldn’t be hard to write realistic, believable conflict. This wasn’t good at all.

    • And to clarify. I’m not saying that having racial issues was the mistake. No, the book most certainly could go that route with the two characters. It’s that it was handled so awkwardly and ham-fisted. Racial arguments are something that only work in storytelling when handled with tact and nuance. When you do it this sloppily, it feels very forced and clunky. And worst of all comes off like it’s being done for the wrong reasons.

  19. I enjoy this issue by all means it had it problems I hope that issue two clears them up.

Am i wrong to think the race issue was brought up just to show they come from to different worlds?

  20. Call me when Killer Frost shows up

  21. I’m not a firestorm reader so maybe that’s why I thought it was pretty cool. Maybe this one is more for new readers?
