As one of those titles that nobody was quite sure what to expect from, this issue is a pleasant surprise. A lot goes on in here: it feels meaty. The characters are reasonably well introduced, though they are rather stereotypical at the moment. Some vague racial tensions seem believable, though over time it could get overplayed very quickly.

Meanwhile, the villains are complete jerks, some kind of shady mercenary outfit looking for something Jason has in his possession and more than willing to kill anyone and everyone that gets…well, in their way or about fifty meters to either side, frankly.

If the plot setup is tremendously implausible (which it is), we can be pretty satisfied that this looks more like it’ll be a buddy action book, and it really doesn’t matter because it gets the job done.
