  1. Must…resist…buying….monthlies…

  2. Wow can’t wait for this!

  3. I love this book, but seriously? "Countdown to Casualty?" Crikey.

  4. @OttoBott – you’re right. I wish I could hold out for the HC, but I can’t and won’t.

That said, I really miss Eaglesham on FF.

  5. I would love for Alan Davis to draw a mini starring Sue Storm.

  6. lovin this book!!

  7. I’ve only read the Dark Reign and first official volume of Hickman’s run; but I don’t care! I am so on board with Epting drawing this series. Plus it sounds like, judging from interviews, you really only need to read those two trades mentioned to get the gist of this arc. Super excited for this.

  8. @TNC from the preview pages I’ve seen you’re right it does seem like that dark riegn mini and the first arc will be the main touchtones for this arc. Glad you’re on board sir

  9. Should be interesting to see how Epting meshes with Hickman. I’ve been liking this series a good deal, and I’ve actually thought that the non-A-list art actually gave the title a quirkyness and underdog sensibility that I really like. I guess Epting’s more dynamic art should go well with the story if this is the poing where things start to come together and kick into high gear, though…

I never read the Dark Reign FF mini, so I should probably get on that…

  10. I am excited for Epting. If he can properly digest Hickman’s way out notions this could be special.

  11. I wasn’t planning on ever getting the dark reign mini, but now it sounds like I might gain something from reading it with regards to this upcoming ‘Three’ arc.  Was the dark reign mini good/essential reading?

  12. It was awesome and it seems like something reed invented in it will play a huge part. If your on the fence just go to barnes and noble and read it in the store

  13. So excited though man, does FF get the worst banners with Heroic Age and now the poor in taste Countdown to Casualty.

  14. I think Countdown to Casualty is deliberately over-the-top silliness. Doing the sort of tcover treatments comics used to do and maybe taking it one step farther into absurdity. It is for laughs, not gasps, that is how I take it anyway.

  15. I want to read this so badly that my moobs hurt.

  16. If Hickman’s run ends as well as it’s been going, then I want an omnibus hardcover collection.  I wish there had been 1 consistent artist throughout, but judging from his first issue, I wish it had been Epting from the start.

  17. @OttoBott – I’m in the same boat as you. I culled this from my pull list when trying to cut back on single issues but am really tempted to start picking it up again, especially since I currently have no Marvel books on my pull list.

  18. Wow this was a really great issue.  Got to love it any time Doom shows up.  I’m beginning to think Reed will be the one to "die" because Valeria has more than enough smarts to take over the brainy role in the group. Oh and Steve Epting’s art was awesome! I dug the Eaglesham issues but it seems like Epting is more suited for these characters.

  19. Best issue of hickman’s very good run. The epting art sure didn’t hurt!

  20. @Peterpark18102 – I’ve loved every issue and completely agree.  I’ve never appreciated Epting on Cap as much as most people, and here he seems like a perfect fit.

  21. Love Steve Epting’s art, but I think he’s the wrong choice for this title.

  22. This was gorgeous. I actually think Epting’s very grounded art is tempering Hickman’s very out-there story and that just makes it the perfect package

  23. Yeah, I preferred Eaglesham. Epting’s Valeria is like 5x as old as she really is.

  24. My POTW for being…..well downright perfect actually.

Hickman’s writing is solid all the way through. Nothing is confusing and everything looks to be connected from the Dark Reign/First Volume trades I read. Hell he even made a shitty Jeph Loeb story idea work into this. The conversation with Val and ‘Uncle Doom’ was just great. Hickman has a really good voice for Doom. Finally the art by Epting; oh boy was he the right man for the job. It seems grounded on one hand, but look closely and you see so much detail and little touches to make this unique. Man I am just so damn happy to be interested in Fantastic Four again. Bring on the Casualty!

(Oh and BTW; how amazing were the last two pages in this?)

    5/5 (POTW)

  25. After to many issues that seemed confused, things are finally starting to come together.

  26. I loved Epting’s art, but I’m not totally sold on how well it fits this book yet. And Val definitely looks like a small adult rather than a kid. With every cover though I more completely wish that Alan Davis was doing the interiors as well.

  27. For me, all the past stories seem to finally be painting the larger picture.  There was one letter that I hope decided to pick up this issue for his worries, which I shared, seem to be coming together.  I’ll be rereading the past issues again soon, I think.  Can’t wait to see how this plays out!

  28. So this issue is my jump into the FF pool…pretty solid issue and a fun read. I feel that i’ve missed out on some of whats going on, but i could figure it out. I like Hickman’s writing style on this..he jumps around scenes in a very cinematic way. I might have to go back and find his other FF issues.
