  1. I guess this will have to hold me over until the better Batman books come out this month.

  2. Welcome John Layman & Jason Fabok. I’ll give this issue a look.

  3. John Layman is excellent. Looking forward to this.

  4. Is this going to be focusing on villains?

    • Check out daningotham’s link about the preview. It says that you will see the villains perspective of things and think, oh, thats why that villain is apeshit crazy.

  5. I can finally pick up Detective Comics again! Yes!

    • I know, right? I dropped DC about six months ago, but when I heard John Layman would be jumping on, I got really excited. I’m willing to give it another arc under his tutelage.

  6. I am so stoked for this issue!

  7. I’ve been eagerly awaiting Layman on this title! Hurray!

  8. Finally, Detective Comics is under the care of a good creative team. It only took a year.

  9. You know what? Fuck it. The preview looks good, I’m only pulling 5 books this week, and Layman’s a hell of a writer. I’ll give it a shot.

  10. This is the first real change to Batman’s powers and backstory in the New 52! Now, he can solve murders by eating a piece of the victim! The new Robin is Cyborg! Arkham Asylum is re-purposed as a buffet restaurant so Bats can solve all the cold cases that Gordon can dig up!

  11. I’m interested in this title for the first time since the new 52. I’ll wait to see how the iFanboys rate the book.

  12. I’m hoping this is going to be good. I’ve never read a mainstream comic by Layman so I have no idea if this is gonna be funny, or serious, or both. Not a fan of Fabok though so he’s gonna be a big factor on whether I wanna keep going or not.

  13. Anyone read it yet? I’m stuck at work until later and this is the issue I’m most interested in this week.

    • I thought it was really good. The story seemed much more cohesive compared to the last year. I love The Penguin!

    • I thought it was a very solid start. I liked Jason Fabok’s art (as well as Andy Clarke’s on the backup) and thought John Layman laid the ground work for an interesting story. I’ll be back for #14. I’m kind of hoping this series focuses on shorter story arcs, if for no other reason than to provide a counterpoint to Snyder’s epics.

    • Got my issue. The story is engaging but I thought the backup was fantastic.

  14. I might be in the minority here, but I didn’t much care for the art in the main story and preferred the art in the backup. While I liked Layman’s stories, I’m not sure I feel the need to add another Bat book to my pull list. I’m already getting Batman, Batman & Robin, and Batman Inc and looking forward to dropping Inc when Morrison leaves. Also, I didn’t like the angry Batman who always seems to be baring his teeth and shouting at criminals. I thought it was scary enough that he was kicking their asses all the way to the hospital.

    • I was thinking the same thing. It was a little unsettling to see Batman breaking legs and arms. He seemed unhinged. I would have liked a little more restraint. Hard to admire someone who inflicts that much pain on someone without knowing exactly what they did to deserve it. It was fun to see him tie it in with making more donations to hospitals. Awesome stuff there!

  15. I thought this was Awesome! I miss Daniel on art but Fabok did a good job. Great story, great back up. First 5 star new 52 detective book for me since #1

  16. I loved this! i feel that already with the first issue we got a taste of how layman is able to mix the humor with the action in this book and did it quite well

  17. This was a good first issue, but the story didn’t really grab me, I’ll stick with it for a while because I trust Layman though. The art wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either, so I’m still on the fence with this one

  18. This is great, finally someone brings a true Detective story to Batman instead of just Horror

  19. This was the only comic I read this week that I enjoyed, good stuff

  20. Excellent read. Great to see ‘Tec back in action!

  21. Yes the story had some nice humor. It was good to see a more human side to the Penguin as well. I would have much rather paid $2.99 though and not had the pointless backup story, although I liked the Andy Clarke artwork.

  22. Wow, awesome issue. ‘Tec is headed back in the right direction. I really loved the backup story too.

  23. Wow! LOVED this issue! John Layman knows how to write a damn good Detective Comics! And the back-up was clever and awesome, way to flesh out a secondary character like Ogilvy!

Count me in for as long as he’s writing ‘Tec!
