It’s nice to pick up a readable issue of Detective Comics again. Greg Hurwitz did a great job with last month’s 0 issue and it’s easy to see why The Dark Knight has improved under his supervision. But this iteration of Batman is great, brooding but sort of humorous. It takes deft writing to pull off that combo convincingly and who better than John Layman of Chew. The art is great too and even though it’ll be nice to have Tony Daniels back on art duties, this was a decent filler. The back-up was really great also. Any story that shows Gotham City without Batman directly in it is a nice change of pace. Seeing how the underworld views Batman is a great reminder of what a symbol he’s become. Overall, highly recommended. Glad that all the Bat-books have turned the ship around.

  1. Jason Fabok isn’t a fill-in artist, he’s the permanent one now.
